Zombie horror remains incredibly popular, but it’s hard for new shows to break through in today’s crowded streaming landscape. While the 2010s offered a wealth of excellent zombie series on both traditional TV and early streaming platforms, by the start of the 2020s, many viewers felt they’d already seen every zombie apocalypse imaginable, making new entries a gamble. However, Netflix revitalized the genre in 2022 with its series, All of Us Are Dead.
The Korean thriller All of Us Are Dead was a breath of fresh air in a crowded horror landscape, cleverly revitalizing familiar zombie tropes. Instead of a vast, open setting, the story traps its characters inside a high school as a deadly virus spreads. This creates intense tension and makes it one of the best zombie stories of the last twenty years. The first season received rave reviews, and the upcoming second season promises to be even more impressive.
Netflix’s All Of Us Are Dead Will Get Even Better In Season 2
The Long-Awaited Follow-Up Is Already Worth The Wait
The first season of All of Us Are Dead ended with a sense of resolution, as explosions appeared to stop the zombie outbreak. However, several questions remain, particularly the existence of “halfbies” – people who are part zombie, part human. These halfbies have been secretly living among us for years, and the fact that they still carry the virus suggests a potential for a new outbreak in the future.
Season 2 of All of Us Are Dead will move the story from the school to the wider city of Seoul, opening up exciting possibilities for new storylines and character growth. The cast is also growing with the addition of talented actors like Roh Jae-won (Squid Game, Daily Dose of Sunshine), Kim Si-eun (Run On, Squid Game), and Lee Min-jae (Weak Hero Class 2, Crash Course in Romance), who are sure to add layers to the drama and enrich the show’s world.
Fans are eagerly anticipating the next season of All of Us Are Dead, but the biggest frustration is how long it’s taking. While Netflix announced a second season in June 2022, filming didn’t start until 2025. Since Netflix’s plans for 2026 don’t include the show, it’s likely we won’t see season 2 until at least 2027. Despite the wait, it should be worth it, as All of Us Are Dead has become a major hit in the zombie horror genre.
All Of Us Are Dead Is TV’s Best Zombies Series Since The Walking Dead
The Korean Drama Is Already Widely Considered A Modern Classic
Zombie horror used to feel innovative, with each new story bringing something unique. That all shifted when The Walking Dead became popular. While a classic, it spawned many imitators that didn’t quite measure up. Since The Walking Dead ended in 2022, only one show has truly stood out as a successor: All of Us Are Dead.
As a huge fan of zombie flicks and shows, I can confidently say that All of Us Are Dead is right up there with the best. It really flipped the typical outbreak story on its head, and the makeup effects were genuinely disturbing – in a good way! What’s amazing is that this K-drama, released in 2022, broke through the usual dominance of English-language content and became a global phenomenon. Even though the first season is still fantastic after four years, like everyone else, I’m eagerly anticipating a second season that hopefully takes things to the next level.
