Firehouse Subs trolls Jersey Mike’s with free sandwich giveaway for anyone named Mike

Firehouse Subs is launching a one-day giveaway that targets a very specific group of customers.

On May 6th, the sandwich chain is giving away a free medium Steak & Cheese Melt to anyone named Mike. This offer is also a playful nod to one of their main competitors.

This special offer is available to anyone named Mike, Michael, Mikey, Miguel, Michelle, Michele, or Michaela. Just be sure to bring a valid photo ID to redeem it in the store.

This new campaign comes as Firehouse Subs adds more items to its menu and increasingly uses creative promotions that highlight what makes the brand unique and its commitment to leadership.

Firehouse Subs offers free sandwich to “every Mike in America”

People magazine reports that this promotion is clearly aimed at Jersey Mike’s, with Firehouse Subs presenting it as a friendly, teasing challenge to their competitor.

The new sandwich is also connected to Firehouse Subs president Mike Hancock, who is mentioned frequently in the campaign. A video promoting the sandwich shows a chef making it and stating it’s “just for Mike.”

Our new Steak & Cheese Melt features tender, flame-seared prime rib, melted provolone, sweet caramelized onions, and colorful red and green bell peppers. It’s packed with protein – each sandwich has 42 grams!

Founded in 1994, Firehouse Subs has grown to more than 1,400 locations worldwide.

I was checking out their site and learned they do a lot of good too! It turns out a part of everything they sell goes to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. They’ve actually given over $107 million to firefighters, police, and other first responders all over North America, which is pretty awesome.

Offering promotions to people with specific names is becoming a popular marketing tactic. For example, in 2025, Halo Top gave away 8,000 free pints of ice cream to customers named after other ice cream brands. To get the free pint, people had to show proof of purchase and confirm their name.
