Terrifying Hello Kitty theme park event turns park into IRL Squid Game

A Hello Kitty theme park is getting a lot of attention online because it’s been temporarily transformed into a scary, horror-themed attraction, a big change from its normally cute atmosphere.

I just think Hello Kitty is seriously one of the sweetest characters ever! It’s hard not to love a little kitty mascot, especially when she’s always partnering up with other cute brands and things.

Okay, so I just heard the cutest theme park, all about adorable kitties, is getting a seriously creepy makeover! Apparently, they’re turning it into something inspired by Squid Game – can you believe it? It’s going to be a total transformation from bright and cheerful to, well, terrifying!

Hello Kitty theme park offers terrifying scares

Sanrio Puroland, often called Hello Kitty Land, is an indoor theme park located in Tokyo, Japan. It’s famous for providing a calm and enjoyable experience, making it a great choice for families.

The park offers gentle experiences like walking through a Hello Kitty house or enjoying a slow drive around Mariland, but it’s not the place to go for thrilling, high-energy adventures.

Things will be different on June 6th and 13th, 2026, when the “Psycho Game” event arrives at the park. This special event runs from 7pm to 10pm, and it transforms the usually cute Hello Kitty characters into guards inspired by Squid Game – they’re known as Psychers!

People wearing masks and carrying realistic-looking toy guns will be present to help all 1,000 participants enjoy the seven different challenges set up throughout the park.

Players can earn their freedom by scoring points through games in each location, but they’ll be penalized if they don’t succeed. The exact nature of these penalties isn’t clear, so it’s best to approach the games expecting to win.

If you succeed and finish all the challenges, you’ll earn a special badge and the satisfaction of knowing you’ve accomplished something amazing.

Tickets cost ¥7,480 in advance (about $46), or ¥8,480 ($52) at the door if they haven’t sold out. If you like thrilling, suspenseful shows like Squid Game and Alice in Borderland, this event promises a memorable – and potentially frightening – night. Don’t say I didn’t warn you if you need something cute and comforting afterwards!

The Hello Kitty nighttime experience is unexpected, but it’s not alone in offering something surprising. Earlier this year, Japan launched a samurai theme park that hosts special events specifically for adults.
