Okay, so this is crazy! I was watching a football game, and when the kicker missed a huge field goal, I laughed so hard I actually had a seizure. Seriously! It sounds insane, but the doctors said going to the hospital after it actually saved my life. Talk about a game I won’t forget!
Watching NFL football is usually exciting, but it can be really annoying if your favorite team isn’t playing well. It’s not often a laugh-out-loud experience, though there are occasionally some funny moments.
During a December football game between the Giants and Patriots, a fan in Kentucky experienced something funny that unexpectedly led to a crucial health discovery.
Doctors find huge tumor in NFL fan’s brain
Mark Toothaker initially found Younghoe Koo’s missed field goal hilarious, watching the replay several times. But shortly after laughing at it on television, Toothaker unexpectedly began having a seizure.
When Toothaker suddenly had a seizure, his wife called 911 and he was taken to the hospital. Doctors discovered a tennis ball-sized tumor in his brain after performing tests and scans.
Incredibly, a man experienced a seizure after laughing hysterically at a missed field goal attempt by Younghoe Koo. Doctors discovered a brain tumor – about the size of a tennis ball – during a subsequent CT scan, and say the seizure may have ultimately saved his life.

Fortunately, Toothaker was rushed to the University of Kentucky hospital, where doctors successfully removed the tumor – and discovered it wasn’t cancerous. He’s made a full recovery and will always be thankful for the kick Koo missed.
In an interview with CBS News, Toothaker explained that the field goal attempt essentially saved his life. He felt incredibly lucky to have been in the right place at the right time, and credited the kick itself with making it possible. He described the situation as a miracle.
Interestingly, Toothaker hadn’t shown any signs of being sick. In fact, he’d been driving and flying all over the country in the weeks and months before that night.
Toothaker feels lucky his seizure happened when and where it did. He explained that it could have been much worse – he could have been driving, flying, or in any situation where he might have harmed someone. The thought of injuring another person is what he says would have been the most difficult thing to cope with.
Honestly, even though that was a really difficult and intense seizure, I don’t remember any of it. It’s hard for me to imagine I wouldn’t have caused an accident or gotten injured if it had happened while I was driving.
Ironically, Koo was released by the New York Giants two weeks after that botched kick.
