Missing dog rescued after getting stuck on ledge of building’s 13th floor

A dog was saved by rescuers in Sydney, Australia, after it escaped and was missing for two days. It had been on the 13th floor of a building when it was found.

Losing a pet is a heartbreaking experience for any owner. The search can be incredibly stressful, lasting hours, days, or even weeks, and unfortunately, doesn’t always end happily.

Jake, an Australian Jack Russell owner, was heartbroken when his dog, Ellbie, went missing on April 25th. After two days of searching, he received a wonderful surprise: a neighbor spotted Ellbie using a drone!

Here’s the tricky part: Ellbie, a dog, had gotten stuck on the outside of the building, wedged between the narrow spaces on the 13th floor. Firefighters from New South Wales Fire and Rescue had to rappel down the side to free her, then brought her inside through a window.

Ellbie the dog rescued by abseiling firefighters

Fire inspector Josh Turner told 9 News that his team typically rescues people from cliffs, but this time they were called to help a dog stuck on a balcony.

We carefully brought the injured dog down from the roof and made sure it was stable. Because it was difficult to communicate with the dog, we moved it to a safer spot where we could properly rescue it, as Turner explained.

The rescue operation lasted more than 90 minutes. Rescuers also set up a safety net on the floor below, in case the dog fell. According to Turner, Ellbie was understandably scared during the process.

People close to Ellbie’s owner believe the dog probably squeezed through a small opening on the balcony – about 20 centimeters wide – and then carefully walked along the building’s exterior to reach a narrow ledge. They were worried she might have fallen.

“It made no sense seeing a dog up there, but it was such a reliving moment,” they said.

We’ve seen heartwarming stories of dogs finding their way back to their owners after being lost for months, thanks to dedicated searching efforts.

Recently, a family was happily reunited with their beloved elderly pet after it had been lost for ten years.
