Taylor Sheridan’s Gritty Western Crime Thriller Officially Releases On Hulu Next Week

Taylor Sheridan‘s Western crime thriller walks up to another streaming home.

Taylor Sheridan is a highly sought-after writer and creator driving a resurgence of Westerns in Hollywood. He’s behind several popular movies and TV series in recent years, including the Westerns Yellowstone and 1923, the crime thriller Mayor of Kingstown, and the spy thriller Lioness. He also received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for the critically acclaimed film Hell or High Water, which is just one of many projects he’s currently involved in, including a new release on Hulu.

Hulu will start streaming the crime thriller Sicario on May 1st. It’s one of several new movies coming to the service that month, alongside fantasy favorites like Disney’s Descendants, comedies like Bride Wars, the original Star Wars trilogy, action-packed spy films like The King’s Man, and a variety of other titles. This release continues a successful run for Sicario creator Taylor Sheridan, whose work has been popular across multiple streaming platforms.

Released on September 18, 2015, Sicario marked a significant milestone in Taylor Sheridan’s career as it was his first produced screenplay. The R-rated crime thriller, made with a $30 million budget, needed to earn between $60 and $75 million to be considered successful. Ultimately, Sicario exceeded expectations, grossing $84.8 million worldwide and proving profitable for the studio. Its success was fueled by positive reviews and strong audience reception.

The film Sicario has received overwhelmingly positive reviews, earning a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 279 reviews. Audiences also seem to love it, giving it an 85% score. The movie boasts a talented cast and crew, with a screenplay by Taylor Sheridan and direction by Denis Villeneuve. Villeneuve is now widely known for directing the Dune films, with the final installment arriving in December. However, Sicario shares more stylistic similarities with his earlier works, Prisoners and Enemy, than with the Dune series.

The film Sicario boasts a talented cast including Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, and Jon Bernthal. The movie centers on Kate Mercer, an FBI agent played by Blunt, as she enters a male-dominated world and joins a special task force aiming to dismantle a drug cartel. She quickly discovers the team’s tactics are far more dangerous and unlawful than expected, especially as she’s forced to collaborate with Alejandro, a former cartel hitman portrayed by Benicio del Toro, leading to increasing conflict.

Following the popularity of the film Sicario, a sequel titled Sicario: Day of the Soldado came out in theaters on June 29, 2018. Several actors from the original, including Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, and Jeffrey Donovan, returned for the new film. Kofi Outlaw of ScreenRant gave Sicario a very positive review, awarding it 9 out of 10 stars. And starting May 1st, Hulu subscribers will be able to stream Sicario.
