ABC’s 4-Part Crime Drama Based on Bestselling Books Reaches Massive Streaming Milestone in the U.S.

Hulu viewers are loving the crime drama! The show has reached a significant milestone in the US on the streaming platform, just before its fifth season airs on ABC.

According to Flix Patrol, the TV show Will Trent has been on Hulu’s list of the top 10 most-watched shows in the US for over 300 days. It’s a rare achievement for an ABC program, with only Abbott Elementary (over 415 days) and High Potential (which reached 300 days just yesterday) having similar runs.

The television series Will Trent was created for TV by Liz Heldens and Daniel T. Thomsen. It’s inspired by the popular book series of the same name, written by Karin Slaughter, which was a New York Times bestseller.

The ABC show centers on Will Trent (Ramón Rodríguez), a special agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Abandoned as a baby, he grew up facing challenges in Atlanta’s foster care system, with an often-complicated relationship with Angie (Erika Christensen). Now, Will uses his difficult past to give him a unique perspective as he solves crimes, and he has an impressive record of closing cases at the GBI.

Will Trent Renewed at ABC

The TV show Will Trent first aired on ABC in January 2023, with its initial season having 13 episodes. A second season of 10 episodes followed in February 2024, and an 18-episode third season debuted in January 2025. The show’s fourth season started in January 2026 and will also have 18 episodes. ABC recently renewed the series.

It’s no surprise that Will Trent has been renewed. The show is rare among network television programs, as its audience has grown with each new season. In fact, it’s the first ABC series to do so since Scandal in 2015.

Several popular ABC shows—including The Rookie, Abbott Elementary, and High Potential—will return for new seasons, both on network television and Hulu. Grey’s Anatomy, 9-1-1, and 9-1-1: Nashville have also been picked up for the 2026-27 TV season.

Will Trent Season 5 Will Be the First Without a Major Character

The fifth season of Will Trent will be missing a familiar face: Sonja Sohn’s character, Amanda Wagner. Her character was unexpectedly killed off in the Season 4 episode “The Blank Expanse of Nothing,” which aired on April 14th. According to showrunner Karine Rosenthal, Amanda Wagner had a significant impact on many characters, and her death creates a major turning point. While painful for the characters, Rosenthal believes this loss will be an exciting catalyst for Season 5.

Rosenthal explained that Amanda has always looked out for Will, and her departure will create a new dynamic at the GBI. Her replacement won’t share that same protective bond with him.

The fourth season of Will Trent continues with a new episode, “Where’d You Come From, Little Angel?”, premiering on ABC on April 28th.
