A teenager from France could face jail time in Singapore after a video he posted showing him licking a vending machine straw and then returning it went viral.
Eighteen-year-old Didier Gaspard Owen Maximilien was accused of vandalizing an orange juice machine on March 12th.
He filmed the stunt, edited the video, and posted it to his Instagram Story, where it quickly became popular.
The video caused public concern about cleanliness, leading iJooz, the company that makes the AI vending machine, to replace all 500 straws.

Following the incident, iJooz conducted cleaning and disinfection checks and also reported it to the police, as reported by Channel NewsAsia.
Maximilien has been charged with vandalism and, if found guilty, could face up to two years in jail. He could also receive an additional three months in jail and a fine of approximately $1,570 for disturbing the public.

He was released on bail for S$5,000 (about $3,927) and hasn’t yet said whether he’ll plead guilty or not. According to local news, he’s a student at ESSEC Business School in Singapore, studying on his own. A school representative is covering his bail while his parents are traveling to meet him.
The case is set to return to court on May 22.
