Anyone who’s worked in retail knows dealing with a difficult or disrespectful customer can completely throw off your day. Lately, these kinds of frustrating encounters are being shared online more and more, and people on the internet often support the employees involved.
A FamilyMart employee in Japan recently became popular online after scolding a customer for not saying “please” when asking for help heating up food.
“Please warm it up,” the frustrated worker demanded, slamming his fist on the cash register. “You need to say ‘please’ first! Say it!”

The angry employee went around the counter and confronted the customer, demanding they say “please.”
So, I was back behind the counter when this customer started calling me “scary” and even told another customer I was “dangerous,” like trying to warn them away from getting served by me! It didn’t really work though, thankfully.
The video, known as the “Kudasai incident,” has gone viral, gaining millions of views. Many online commenters have reacted to it, with some dismissing it as unimportant and criticizing the employee’s behavior as rude and inappropriate.

Some people defended the customer, criticizing the clerk for their aggressive behavior and for pointing at them. One person commented that the clerk was behaving inappropriately.
Honestly, while I wouldn’t react the same way, I totally get why that store clerk was upset. It’s a small thing, but I really wish people would just automatically say “please” and “thank you” when they’re dealing with anyone working in a store. It would make things so much nicer for everyone.
One person asked to see the entire conversation before anyone assumed what happened, pointing out that the customer seemed to be acting superior. Another commenter suggested the customer likely provoked the staff, explaining that the video appeared to be recorded specifically to show the staff’s reaction to something the customer did.
