2026 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for first-person shooter games. Popular titles like Overwatch 2 have received major updates, and several brand new FPS games have already been released to positive reviews and strong sales.
Despite some initial setbacks, Bungie’s revival of Marathon has become a well-received and exciting addition to the increasingly popular extraction shooter genre. Meanwhile, Mouse: P.I. For Hire offered a unique experience by combining fast-paced action similar to Doom with the visual style of old cartoons and classic film noir.
Despite the year being well underway, there are still about eight months left in 2026, and a lot of exciting first-person shooter (FPS) games are planned for release. These include both highly anticipated sequels and completely new games that could quickly become popular favorites.
As a huge FPS fan, I’m already getting excited about 10 new games coming out! They’ve all got something special – whether it’s a really interesting backstory from the developers, amazing worlds to explore, cool new ways to play, or stories that really make you think. I think these are ones to watch!
10. Clawed
A Horrifying Prehistoric Park

| Developer | Flatrock Games |
|---|---|
| Platforms | PC |
| Release Date | Q2 2026 |
Dinosaurs and video games are a classic combination, but surprisingly, there haven’t been many truly great dinosaur games since Dino Crisis. While Jurassic World Evolution is enjoyable, it’s more of a relaxed management experience than an action-packed adventure.
Flatrock Games is planning to fill this gap with their new survival horror game, Clawed, which is expected to be released on Steam by the end of June.
In Clawed, players take on a secret mission, either alone or with a friend, to explore the abandoned and decaying Prehistoria theme park on Veyra Island. They must uncover the park’s hidden secrets while desperately trying to survive the hunt from dangerous, resurrected dinosaurs and other prehistoric beasts.
In Clawed, you won’t just be fighting dinosaurs! You can also solve tricky puzzles, discover different environments, enjoy fun mini-games like the Carnivore Chaos Shooting Range, and observe peaceful dinosaurs from a safe distance.
9. Far Far West
Westworld Gone Wild
Many of the most memorable first-person shooter games emphasize teamwork, offering unique experiences that differentiate them from standard military shooters. A great example is Far Far West by Evil Raptor.
Far Far West is a cooperative first-person shooter for 1 to 4 players. You play as a team of bounty-hunting robots riding mechanical horses, completing jobs for a sheriff in spooky mines, dangerous deserts, and saloons reminiscent of the Old West.
Even though it’s launching in early access in just a few days, Far Far West is shaping up to be one of the most enjoyable and visually striking first-person shooter games of the year.
Despite being made by a small team of just eight people, this game is packed with exciting battles against bizarre enemies like giant ghost trains and floating, haunted saloons. Players can also customize their weapons – from six-shooters to Gatling guns and spells – and the developers plan to add even more content and game modes in the future.
8. Frostrail
Surviving on Frozen Tracks
Most first-person shooter (FPS) games are set in futuristic or historical military environments. However, Frostrail, an upcoming survival FPS from FakeFish, is different – it takes place in a frozen wasteland and revolves around trains.
Frostrail combines elements of games like 7 Days to Die, Choo-Choo Charles, and Snowpiercer. Players, whether playing alone or with friends, must fight to survive in a once-powerful empire now frozen and desolate after the Emperor made a deal with a strange, unknown force called the Void.
A dark agreement unleashed terrifying creatures – the undead and other monstrous beings – across the land. The few people left had to search for food and weapons, and work to fix trains powered by the powerful Eden Engine, just to stay alive.
Even though Frostrail isn’t launching in early access for several months, players will soon have a chance to try it out through a playtest. This will give them a first look at the snow-covered, post-apocalyptic world and see if it has the potential to become a leading survival game on PC.
7. The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu
A Promising New Horror Adventure
The most enjoyable games often let players team up and face terrifying challenges together, fighting for survival against incredibly powerful and frightening enemies.
ACE Team is developing a new first-person horror game called The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu. Players take on the roles of Spanish explorers tasked with finding a missing person, discovering a long-lost fort, and searching for treasure on a strange, jungle island filled with supernatural elements.
While playable alone, The Mound is best enjoyed with up to four players working together. The game features Lovecraftian horrors that will attack your team with creatures resembling zombies and those with tentacles. What’s more, these entities will drive each player’s character slowly mad, causing them to experience disturbing visions.
Players might encounter something that seems like an ancient artifact, but it could suddenly transform into a dangerous trap when they get close. Alternatively, they might start experiencing hallucinations, seeing a teammate as a monster, which could lead to friendly fire or intense conflicts.
6. Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core
Reclaiming Hoxxes’ Mines
Deep Rock Galactic, the popular co-op mining game from Ghost Ship Games that took off in the early 2020s, is still enjoyed by many players. Now, the developers are challenging even their most dedicated fans with a new game – a roguelite, which is a different style of gameplay than they’re used to.
Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core, the second standalone game in the Deep Rock Galactic universe, is launching on May 20th. It’s a fast-paced, replayable shooter where you play as the Reclaimers, a special dwarven security team sent to Hoxxes to figure out why all the mines suddenly went offline in an event called The Grayout.
You can still play Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core with up to four players, but it’s different this time. You start each mission with only basic equipment and have to find better gear and upgrades within the mines as you go. Your character’s progress carries over between missions, letting you improve over time.
Basically, Rogue Core will be a much harder version of Deep Rock Galactic. The longer you stay on a mission, the tougher the enemies and challenges become. This means players will really need to cooperate and work together effectively to defeat the powerful Core Spawn and survive.
5. Animal Use Protocol
A Potential Successor to Alien: Isolation
| Developer | The Brotherhood |
|---|---|
| Platforms | PC |
| Release Date | 2026 |
First-person horror games are incredibly popular, and Alien: Isolation by Creative Assembly is often considered one of the best. While Creative Assembly is developing a sequel to Isolation, a new, similarly terrifying experience might come from Brotherhood Games’ Animal Use Protocol.
In Animal Use Protocol, you play as Penn, a remarkably intelligent chimpanzee, and Trip, a similarly bright mouse, as they team up to escape a terrifying research lab and rescue other animals being held there.
Rather than facing a Xenomorph, Penn and Trip will have to watch out for massive, incredibly tough, and mutated creatures. If players aren’t cautious, these monsters could immediately end their mission to gain freedom.
Okay, so in this game, you’re basically relying on your smarts – and the tools Penn and Trip have. The coolest thing is this gravity gun – you can use it to chuck stuff at enemies, but also solve puzzles. Honestly, if you’re into FPS games, horror, or even Planet of the Apes, you’re going to want to keep an eye out for this one later this year!
4. Halo: Campaign Evolved
Return to Alpha Halo
The hugely popular Halo franchise is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2026. To mark the occasion, Microsoft will release Halo: Combat Evolved on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation at the same time later this year – a first for the series.
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is a remastered version of the original Halo game from 2001. It lets players, both longtime fans and newcomers, experience the story of Master Chief as he and the crew of the UNSC Pillar of Autumn crash-land on the alien ringworld of Alpha Halo and battle the Covenant.
The core story, levels, and gameplay of Campaign Evolved will stay true to the original, but it will also include several new and interesting changes to attract players. These include features like sprinting, weapons from across the Halo series, and three new missions that take place before the events of the original game, following Master Chief and Sgt. Avery Johnson.
Look, I was a little bummed when I heard Campaign Evolved wouldn’t have the classic PvP multiplayer we all loved in Halo. But honestly, Halo Studios really made up for it! They’ve added four-player co-op, which means you can now team up with three friends and experience Installation 04 together as Spartans for the very first time. It’s a fantastic way to play!
3. Turok: Origins
The Comeback of a Beloved Series

Dinosaurs and video games go great together, and the Turok series is a prime example. After a seven-year break, a new installment, Turok: Origins, is set to be released later this year.

In the latest installment, Turok: Origins, players take on the role of Native American warriors named Turok, battling dinosaurs and aliens either by themselves or with a friend in the strange and dangerous Lost Lands.
Similar to previous games in the series, Origins lets you play in both first-person and third-person perspectives. You’ll battle the dangerous creatures of the Lost Lands using a variety of weapons, including plasma rifles, ray guns, bows, and melee weapons, as well as new, magic-inspired DNA-based abilities.
While a specific release date hasn’t been announced, Origins is slated to come out this Fall on all major gaming systems. This will allow a new generation of players to experience the Turok universe.
2. Clockwork Revolution
Xbox’s Most Promising New IP in Years
2026 will be a huge year for Xbox. It marks the brand’s 25th anniversary and will bring back some of its most popular games, including the new versions of Halo, Gears of War, and Fable.
I’m really excited for what Xbox has planned this year, and it sounds like they’re not just sticking to what they know. They’re actually launching some completely new game series! One that’s really caught my eye is Clockwork Revolution, which is being made by InXile Entertainment. It’s a single-player action RPG played from a first-person perspective, and honestly, it looks awesome.
In the steampunk city of Avalon, filled with automatons, Clockwork Revolution lets you play as Morgan Vanette, a character you can customize. You’ll eventually get a time machine powered by a mysterious forest and use it to survive intense gunfights and change history. Your goal? Either liberate Avalon from the cruel Lady Ironwood, or seize control for yourself.
Clockwork Revolution blends the fascinating world and reality-bending powers of BioShock Infinite with the gameplay style of Fallout. Though a specific release date isn’t available yet, it’s already shaping up to be one of the most exciting games Xbox Game Studios has created in a long time.
1. Metro 2039
The Legacy of Moscow’s Tunnels
While many first-person shooters are worth playing, keep an eye on Metro 2039 from 4A Games – it’s a standout title that deserves attention.
Following up on Metro Exodus (2019), Metro 2039 takes players back to the Moscow metro tunnels featured in the original Metro games. However, instead of playing as Artyom, the series’ main character, you’ll play as a mysterious, solitary figure known only as the Stranger. He’s compelled to confront his past and venture back into the tunnels, which are now controlled by the oppressive Novoreich regime.
Unlike Exodus, 2039 returns to the core survival horror roots of the Metro series. Players, as the Stranger, will face terrifying, irradiated creatures both underground in the tunnels and on the surface, and will also encounter the mysterious and psychic Dark Ones.
What’s particularly striking about the game 2039 is that it was created by 4A Games while Russia was invading Ukraine. With part of the studio based in Kyiv, Ukraine, the developers drew on their experiences during the war to explore themes of oppression and the value of freedom in the game.
