Cryptic Studios is running a “Quick Start” event for its online games – Star Trek Online, Neverwinter, and Champions Online. Until May 21, 2026, new players on PC can get a free, powerful character that’s already prepared for the most challenging content in the game.
This special offer is for all players of Star Trek Online, Neverwinter, and Champions Online, whether you’re new to the games or returning after a break. While these games are free to play, this promotion gives you a powerful, fully-equipped character that starts at the highest level. This means new players can skip the early stages and jump right into the action, and returning players can quickly rejoin the game without having to start over with a new character.
Because every game is unique, the Quick Start character changes to fit each one.
Star Trek Online
As a Star Trek Online player, I’m really excited about the new Quick Start character! It’s a free Jem’Hadar Vanguard Tactical Captain, which is awesome. You start at level 60 – close to the max level – with a strong ship and some really good gear. Plus, you’ve already made a ton of progress with reputations, so you can grab some of the best items quickly. If you’re an existing player, it adds another character to your account, but you can even keep the character slot open if you decide to delete the Quick Start character later. It’s a great way to jump into the game or try out a new playstyle!
Star Trek Online is currently hosting a “Gamma Recruitment” event. Players who create new Jem’hadar or Dominion characters during the event will receive extra benefits that extend to all of their existing characters on that account.
Neverwinter
I’m really excited about the Quick Start promotion in Neverwinter! It lets you instantly grab a powerful, level 20 character – you can choose between a Fighter, Cleric, or Wizard. They’re all built to be strong in their role – the Fighter’s a tank, the Cleric heals, and the Wizard does damage. They’ve set up a main loadout focused on dealing damage to help you tackle the solo stuff, but they also have a secondary loadout ready to go for group adventures, letting you switch to the character’s original role. And the best part? Even though they come with a pre-set race and gender, you can totally customize them however you like after you claim one – for free!
New players starting with the Neverwinter Quick Start characters will begin with a guided tutorial in Menzoberranzan. This will help them learn how to play and earn extra rewards before they explore the larger world of Faerûn.
Champions Online
So, I just found out that if you jump into Champions Online with their Quick Start deal, you get a free level 30 hero! You can pick from three different styles: The Icicle, The Behemoth, or The Inventor. Basically, these Archetypes give you a head start with a specific power setup and playstyle – think of it like choosing a hero inspired by classic comic book characters. The Behemoth, for example, is a big, strong character kinda like the Hulk or the Thing!
When you begin playing, your character will automatically receive a good set of equipment that gets even better as you reach level 40. You can also purchase a “Head Start Key Pack” from the in-game store for additional benefits, like the ability to create a completely customized hero with unique powers.
Neverwinter and Star Trek Online can be played on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Champions Online is available only on PC. This introductory program lasts until May 21, 2026.
