The next Sonic the Hedgehog movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, is drawing inspiration for its Metal Sonic storyline from a surprising place, adding to the excitement. The end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 revealed that Metal Sonic will be the main villain, attacking Sonic with the intent to harm him. Luckily, Amy Rose arrives to save the day.
The designs of the two new characters suggest the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will draw inspiration from the 1993 game Sonic CD, which first introduced Amy and Metal Sonic. While it’s unknown exactly how much of Sonic CD will be featured, this could lead to anything from the return of Robotnik as a powerful leader to the inclusion of time travel elements.
One thing in the post-credits scene stands out from the games: Metal Sonic commands an army of gray robots that look just like him. In the video games, Metal Sonic is usually a one-of-a-kind creation of Dr. Eggman. However, the idea of a Metal Sonic army isn’t new to the Sonic universe – it previously appeared in a Sonic comic book series.
The UK comic series Sonic the Comic, which ran from 1993 to 2002, featured several robotic versions of Sonic. In the comic, this character was called Metallix – a robot created by Dr. Robotnik that looked and moved like Sonic. A particular storyline involving these robotic enemies may offer clues about how the robotic army of Metal Sonic will be used in the upcoming movie.
Sonic The Comic’s Brotherhood Of Metallix Explained
Metallix first appears in Sonic the Comic as a unique Metal Sonic robot. He plays a key role in Doctor Robotnik’s plan to take over Miracle Planet, which Robotnik attaches to Sonic’s home planet, Mobius. Sonic defeats Metallix by going back in time with the Time Stones and teaming up with his younger self. However, this wouldn’t be the last time Sonic would face Metallix.
As the story progresses, Sonic and his friends discover that Miracle Planet has been taken over by an army of robots called Metallix, and is now known as Planet Metallix. These robots all look like Metal Sonic, with one exception: Emperor Metallix, a massive, red robot who rules from a throne. This robotic army is the main challenge in this part of the comic series.
Sonic discovers that a group called the Brotherhood went back in time to prevent Robotnik from becoming evil. Although Sonic fixes this, he returns to a future still ruled by Emperor Metallix. He finally defeats Metallix by teaming up with Robotnik, ending their rivalry for good.
How Sonic 4 Can Adapt Sonic The Comic’s Emperor Metallix Storyline
While a direct adaptation of the “Brotherhood of Metallix” storyline from Sonic the Comic is unlikely for Sonic the Hedgehog 4, the appearance of a Metal Sonic army suggests the filmmakers are drawing inspiration from the series. This isn’t the first time the movies have borrowed from the comic either; the ending of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 featured a moment where Knuckles suspected Sonic had been corrupted by the Master Emerald’s energy, a subtle reference to Super Sonic’s behavior in the comic.
The upcoming threat of Metal Sonic might draw inspiration from the Metallix, a powerful robotic villain. The blue Metal Sonic seen at the end of the recent movie could be building an army of robots modeled after himself, aiming for world domination – similar to Emperor Metallix. This would connect to both the story from Sonic the Comic and the events of the Sonic Heroes game, where Metal Sonic previously turned against Dr. Eggman to pursue his own goals.
If the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4 takes inspiration from Sonic the Comic, we might see Sonic and Dr. Robotnik working together again. Recent footage shown at CinemaCon suggests Robotnik still believes he’s a hero, even after the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The story could potentially lead to an unlikely alliance between the two.
The next Sonic the Hedgehog movie could hint at the villain Emperor Metallix by showing Metal Sonic transform as he gains power. We’ve seen him change forms before, like in Sonic Heroes where he became Neo Metal Sonic, then the more powerful Metal Madness and Metal Overlord. The movie could also draw inspiration from Sonic the Comic, incorporating ideas from the Brotherhood of Metallix, even while primarily based on the games.
