Matthew Macfadyen’s Sci-Fi Comedy The Miniature Wife Hits No. 4 on Peacock After Just 2 Weeks

Okay, so I’ve been watching Peacock’s new sci-fi comedy, and while it started strong – it was the show everyone was talking about for almost two weeks – I’m noticing it’s losing some momentum. It’s slowly slipping down the charts, and honestly, I’m starting to wonder if it can keep its initial buzz going.

Originally titled The Miniature Wife, the show stars two well-known actors from The Hunger Games as a married couple. It quickly gained popularity, reaching the No. 4 spot on Peacock’s charts just two weeks after its release, according to FlixPatrol.

On April 24th, the show was third in ratings, but it fell to fourth the next day. Now, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is number one after jumping eight spots, with Law & Order: SVU and Love Island: Beyond the Villa rounding out the top three.

What Happens in The Miniature Wife?

Inspired by Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, The Miniature Wife introduces Les Littlejohn and his wife, Lindsay, a successful couple. Les is a scientist who’s invented a shrinking solution – a technology that could be incredibly useful for conserving resources. However, he hasn’t yet figured out how to reverse the shrinking process.

During an argument with his wife, Lindsay, she unknowingly picks up a shrinking device and accidentally shrinks herself. Now, his company is demanding an antidote, so he’s racing against the clock to both save his invention and rescue his wife – and their relationship.

The cast of The Miniature Wife includes Ronny Chieng (known from The Daily Show and Crazy Rich Asians), Zoe Lister-Jones (New Girl, Life In Pieces, Friends with Better Lives), Sofia Rosinsky (Paper Girls, Death and Other Details), O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale, Presumed Innocent), Sian Clifford (Fleabag, The Ballad of Wallis Island), Aasif Mandvi (Evil, The Daily Show), Rong Fu (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Hello (Again)), and Tricia Black (Small Achievable Goals, Pretty Hard Cases). Jennifer Ames and Steve Turner developed the series together.

The Miniature Wife Didn’t Impress

Just because a show gets some initial buzz doesn’t guarantee it will be a hit with critics and audiences. It started strong, but opinions shifted as more reviews and feedback came in.

As of today, The Miniature Wife has a 70% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 23 reviews. Critics are praising the actors’ performances, though the story itself isn’t particularly groundbreaking. However, most reviewers agree that the film is consistently funny.

The show received a mixed reaction from viewers, earning a 58% rating which isn’t high enough for a positive recommendation. While some disliked the show’s strong language and found the characters difficult to connect with, others enjoyed its humor and praised the acting.
