Michael B. Jordan lines up Battlefield movie after Oscar win

Fresh off his first Oscar win, Michael B. Jordan is eyeing a very different kind of Battlefield.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael B. Jordan teamed up with Christopher McQuarrie—the director known for his work on the recent Mission: Impossible films—to create a proposal that was presented to major Hollywood studios on Thursday.

Pairing an Academy Award-winning actor with a director known for spectacular action movies is a recipe for big business. Studios are already competing to secure the project.

Battlefield movie in the works with Christopher McQuarrie set to write and direct

Chad McQuarrie will write, direct, and produce a movie based on the popular Battlefield video game series. Michael B. Jordan is producing as well and is in talks to potentially star in the film. Electronic Arts, the creator of Battlefield, is also producing.

This launch wasn’t a coincidence. Battlefield 6 was the best-selling game in the US for 2025, significantly beating Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 for the entire year. It also had the biggest launch month for any game in three years, selling 7 million copies in just its first three days.

Considering this franchise used to be constantly measured against Call of Duty, its recent success is the type of turnaround that gets the attention of people in Hollywood.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Christopher McQuarrie and his team met with several studios and streaming services like Apple and Sony on Thursday, with more meetings scheduled for Friday. They’re hoping to release the film in theaters, which could create competition with Paramount’s upcoming Call of Duty movie, currently being written and directed by Taylor Sheridan and Peter Berg, and slated for release in June 2028. It’s unknown if McQuarrie’s team will also meet with Paramount, considering this potential clash.
