When you really want to go to a concert but can’t get tickets, your first instinct is to try and find one. You might know someone selling one at a fair price, but if not, you’ll probably end up looking at resale websites.
Resale tickets are often much more expensive than the original price, because people buy them with the intention of reselling them for a profit. This issue is complicated further by controversies like Ticketmaster’s use of dynamic pricing, which adjusts prices based on demand.
Okay, so good news for us gamers in Ontario, Canada! Ticketmaster’s finally changing things so they won’t be able to sell tickets for more than their original price. It’s about time, honestly!
Ticketmaster Canada complies with new bill in Ontario
Following the passage of Ontario’s new budget bill, the government is now limiting how much people can resell tickets for. CP24 reports that businesses breaking this rule could face fines as high as $10,000.
Toronto Blue Jays fans have noticed the issue and are sharing emails on Reddit showing that tickets are being removed from sale.
Ticketmaster Canada has started reaching out to fans who were selling tickets on its resale platform to inform them that those tickets have been removed from the marketplace, as the new law takes effect soon, a spokesperson told CP24.
We’re updating our ticket resale platform to follow Ontario’s new rules, and next week, fans will be able to resell their tickets again.
Ticketmaster has announced that they will be complying with Ontario’s new Bill 97 to cap pricing on resale tickets, effective of April 23, 2026.

According to GlobalNews, the bill still needs final approval to officially become law, but that’s expected to happen soon.
It’s still unclear whether other regions and nations worldwide will pay attention and do the same.
In April, a jury determined that Live Nation, which owns Ticketmaster, had illegally controlled the ticket sales market.
