Fans are worried about the future of ‘Gang of Dragon,’ a game from the creator of Yakuza, Toshihiro Nagoshi, after Nagoshi Studios removed its YouTube channel.
Since their debut in 2005, the Yakuza games have gained a dedicated and passionate fanbase, and that popularity has continued to grow over the last ten years. The series is well-known for its unique blend of silly, lighthearted moments – like drunken karaoke – and intense, over-the-top action, often involving fights with rival gangs. So, when Toshihiro Nagoshi, the creator of Yakuza, announced ‘Like a Dragon’ at The Game Awards in 2025, fans were very excited.
The game ‘Gang of Dragon’ was originally planned to star Ma Dong-seok, known for his roles in ‘Train to Busan’ and ‘The Eternals,’ but its future is now uncertain.
Gang of Dragon YouTube page disappears
On April 23rd, people noticed that the Nagoshi Studios YouTube channel was gone, and their game trailer video had been removed.
When the game’s cancellation was announced, many people immediately remembered reports from February 2025 that NetEase, the company supporting Nagoshi Studios, had withdrawn its financial support.
According to a Bloomberg report, NetEase has allowed Nagoshi Studios to finish their current project, but won’t offer any more financial support or invest in marketing and promotion.

This follows NetEase’s recent announcement that they are ending financial support for the game, which was being led by the original creator of the Yakuza series. Things aren’t looking promising for the game’s future.

Fans expressed disappointment and frustration after a game they were looking forward to experienced issues. One fan said it was “really sad,” while another used stronger language to emphasize that it was the only promising game featured at the event. Many expressed sympathy for the development team, acknowledging the situation was beyond their control and likely very difficult.
As of today, the game is still available on Steam and people can still add it to their wishlists, even though the studio has taken down its YouTube page.
Many fans were disheartened to discover that older, discontinued games like Highguard are still running on Steam, which has tempered their expectations for a revival of other titles.
