Police are looking into the death of Tamyris Teixeira Santos, a martial arts influencer from Brazil, who disappeared while swimming at Leblon Beach in Rio de Janeiro.
Tamyris, a lawyer, was last seen on Saturday, April 18th. She was with friends at a beach kiosk and went swimming, but witnesses say she didn’t come back.
It wasn’t until the next day that her family realized she was missing. A worker at a kiosk contacted them after finding her things left behind. They then reported her missing, and the fire department was alerted.
Her body was found on the beach near Leblon viewpoint on Tuesday, April 21st. Family members later identified her, and she was buried in the north zone of Rio de Janeiro on Thursday, April 23rd.
Death of Brazilian martial arts influencer sparks investigation
According to a forensic report obtained by Brazilian news source Metrópoles, Tamyris died after suffering a stroke while drowning. The report indicates that lack of oxygen and water entering her lungs during the drowning caused irreversible brain damage, ultimately leading to her death.
The disappearance of Tamyris has gained significant attention in Brazil, especially because she was last seen on a crowded Rio de Janeiro beach in the middle of the day. Her mother expressed confusion to local news outlets, saying she couldn’t understand how her daughter could simply vanish without anyone seeing something.
Her mother, Elisabeth Teixeira, said her daughter told her she was going to the beach and never returned. ‘No one has been able to explain what happened,’ she said. ‘The beach was packed that day, so it’s impossible that she could have drowned and no one would have seen.’
I’ve been following the Tamyris case, and her mom says it’s even stranger than we thought. Apparently, the friends Tamyris was with just left the beach when she didn’t come back from swimming, and they didn’t call for help right away! It’s just adding so many more questions to an already heartbreaking and shocking situation.
The situation is even more puzzling when you learn the influencer, who shared videos of her jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai workouts with her 18,000 Instagram followers, was also a skilled swimmer.
Police in Rio de Janeiro are investigating the events leading up to influencer Tamyris’s death. As her family, fans, and the media demand answers, authorities are carefully reviewing the case.
Just recently, 38-year-old Mara Flavia, a fitness influencer from Brazil, tragically died in a drowning accident while competing in a triathlon in Texas.
