D4 Enterprise is slowly rolling out a Nintendo Switch version of the classic game Adventure of Randar, originally released on the MSX2 in 1989. It will be available for $6.49 on Nintendo eShops around the world, including in the United States.
The game features Randar, who became an early mascot for Compile before games like Mado Monogatari and Puyo Puyo became popular. Compile later made two sequels, completing a three-game series. While the entire trilogy is available for free on the Project EGG platform for Japanese PC users, this is just the beginning of bringing the games to the Nintendo Switch.
Below you’ll find the official trailer, details, and images for this version of Randar. Like previous console releases, the game itself is still only in Japanese, even though the description is in English.
This role-playing game, originally released by Compile in 1989 as part of the Disk Station Spring Issue, puts you in the role of Randar, a young knight. Randar must journey to save the Kingdom of Mamorus, which is under the control of the evil demon Nestilva.
This game is easy to pick up and play, with simple 2D movement and surprise battles. You’ll explore three towns, three caves, and a castle as you progress through the story.
As a longtime fan, I can tell you this game is tough – it really throws a lot of enemies at you and you’ll definitely spend some time leveling up. But that’s kind of what we loved back then! It’s awesome to see Compile followed this up with several sequels, proving how much people enjoyed it. If you’re curious about the roots of this series, I totally recommend checking out this classic RPG!
