In the game Cyberpunk 2077 developed by CD Projekt Red, Keanu Reeves portrayed Johnny Silverhand. With a potential sequel on the horizon, there’s speculation as to whether or not Reeves will reprise his role.
In a conversation with IGN, the actor from The Matrix expressed enthusiasm about potentially returning to his role in the upcoming sequel, stating he would definitely consider it.
“I’d love to play Johnny Silverhand again,” he said.
In Cyberpunk 2077, the character Silverhand was once a rockstar and is portrayed as a digital entity (or “engram”) following his death in real life. The outcome for this character at the game’s end may vary based on the ending chosen by players. This raises the possibility that Silverhand could make an appearance in Cyberpunk 2, but it is not certain; such a return depends on multiple variables and factors, making it uncertain whether it will occur or not.
It’s uncertain if Keanu Reeves might return as Johnny Silverhand in something beyond a game, but it’s definitely apparent that he’s open to reprising his role in some capacity or other.
As of now, Cyberpunk 2 is tentatively titled and has moved into pre-production phase earlier this year. By July 31, 2025, a team of 116 individuals at CD Projekt Red were contributing to the game, an increase from the 96 people three months prior. Notably, most staff are currently focusing on the studio’s upcoming major project: The Witcher 4.
In December 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 was released, but its launch was tainted by severe technical problems that were so intense that Sony temporarily withdrew the game from sale. Despite these difficulties, the initial sales of Cyberpunk 2077 were astronomical and have continued to escalate since then, reaching 30 million copies by November 2024. CD Projekt Red worked tirelessly to enhance and rectify the gaming experience, transforming the game into an emblematic tale of redemption.
While there isn’t much information available on the game Cyberpunk 2, its developer Dan Hernberg has revealed that it will tell an exceptionally American tale.
The game has a strong, energetic vibe reminiscent of punk music, and since its creators for the sequel are situated in Boston (USA), it feels fitting to set it within America.
Regarding the release date, it’s uncertain at this point, but given that The Witcher 4 is expected to come out first, we can assume that Cyberpunk 2 won’t be released any time in the near future.
