After a long period with no confirmed reports, a sighting of the Loch Ness Monster has been officially recorded in 2026.
The Loch Ness Monster is a world-renowned legend – a creature from prehistoric times believed to live in the deep, dark waters of Loch Ness in Scotland.
Even though there’s no real proof it exists, people who hunt monsters all over the world continue to report sightings of this elusive creature.
The Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register received a report on March 1st of an American tourist seeing something believed to be Nessie while boating near the entrance to a channel leading into Loch Ness.
First Nessie sighting spotted in 2026
Tony Inhorn reported seeing something strange surface in the loch around 10:30 am.
Tony reported seeing something resembling the Loch Ness Monster at 10:30 am. He described a dark greenish-gray shape rising from the water near the entrance to the Caledonian Canal.
Considering how it moved and its size, I believe we likely saw either Nessie’s back or her side as she surfaced at an angle of about 45 degrees.
He described seeing a portion of the creature emerge about two feet from the water’s surface. He estimated it was five to ten feet long and visible for a short time before it sank back into the dark waters of the loch.
I couldn’t believe my eyes! This thing – it looked like Nessie – rose out of the water maybe two feet, and I’d say just the top part of it was visible, probably five to ten feet long. It was pretty close, only about fifteen feet from our boat. It hung there for a few seconds – maybe five – then slipped back under the surface. It was incredible!

Inhorn insisted the object’s shape was distinct, even with the choppy water, and wasn’t simply an illusion created by the waves.
I saw a body in the waves, and it wasn’t just being moved by the current – it seemed like someone was actually there.
Although there’s no confirmed proof, people who have been looking for it have reported seeing the creature in the loch 1,167 times.
This year hasn’t just brought new sightings of the Loch Ness Monster; a long-time expert on Nessie has also changed their mind. After 52 years of studying the legend, they now believe the monster isn’t real.
