YouTube quietly changes classic channel feature and viewers aren’t happy

YouTube has quietly updated how video counts are displayed on channels, and it’s now harder to quickly see the total number of videos a channel has posted.

YouTube has been making some changes lately, but many viewers haven’t been happy with them. For example, in late January, YouTube mistakenly deleted custom subtitles used by a lot of VTubers.

Honestly, I’ve been getting really annoyed with all the ads lately – they seem to be getting longer and you can’t even skip most of them! It’s cool they finally let us share videos with timestamps on mobile, which is something we’ve been asking for forever. But it’s super frustrating that they took away the clips feature to do it. It feels like a step backwards!

Okay, so YouTube’s getting some heat from us gamers right now. They’ve made it way harder to see how many videos a channel actually has, and honestly, it’s almost impossible to check on my phone. It’s super frustrating when you’re trying to get a feel for a creator!

YouTube makes uploaded video counter harder to find

A recent change, criticized by many online as pointless, has moved the video view count from its prominent display on a channel’s main page.

On computers, you now need to click ‘more info’ on a channel’s page to find out how many videos they’ve posted. It’s much more obvious on phones and tablets, though.

On mobile, you can only see how many videos a channel has uploaded when you find it through a search. If you go directly to the channel’s profile, that video count disappears and isn’t available anywhere on the page, even in the ‘About’ section.

Another useless update by YT. Now you can’t see the number of videos on channels.

One user angrily questioned what good this change does, arguing it only makes it more difficult for people who track YouTube statistics – including websites, analysts, and anyone else interested in channel data – and sees no benefit for YouTube itself.

One user wondered how often YouTube makes unwanted changes, while another pointed out the video view counter didn’t seem useful and suggested the changes might be intended to frustrate users.

Although it might seem minor, some people pointed out that the counter helped them gauge how much activity a channel had before they decided to subscribe, and also alerted them if content had been removed without notice.

Someone mentioned they enjoyed checking how many videos a channel posted, and they were excited because one of their favorites was nearing 1,000 videos.

It remains to be seen if YouTube will address the change and backlash.
