As the release date of With draws near, fans are speculating about which character variations will appear in the final chapters of the Multiverse Saga. It’s likely that the movie’s heroes will battle corrupted versions of themselves, all while opposing Doom.
Luckily, the comics offer Marvel Studios some excellent material to work with. Characters such as Fire-Ant, Malice, or the Maker could pose a serious challenge to the heroes we currently see in the MCU. Introducing these villains would increase the tension and give the Avengers: Doomsday cast a chance to showcase their talents – it could even open the door for a guest appearance by actors from another cinematic universe.
Fire-Ant Is Scott Lang Without Any Redeeming Qualities
It’s hard to imagine Scott Lang ever being a bad guy. He has one of the most inspiring origin stories, transforming from a thief into a hero. Plus, with Paul Rudd playing him, he’s simply too likeable. However, a villainous version of Ant-Man does exist somewhere in the multiverse – specifically on Earth-21798.
This Scott Lang didn’t give up his life of crime. He started working for Baron Zemo and the Siege Society, adopting the name Fire-Ant. He’s not the only former Avenger turned bad on this world; Hawkeye and Black Widow are also part of the Siege. As a team, they pull off incredibly successful heists.
Earth-616’s Beast Went Through a Dark Path
For a long time, Beast was the most sensible member of the X-Men, but the new era on Krakoa brought out a different side of this brilliant mind, hidden within a monstrous form. Beast of Earth-616 became fixated on protecting his people, and when Russia tried to seize control of Krakoa, he lost control and created a hidden prison. He even killed his teammate, Wolverine, when confronted.
To make matters worse, he even created multiple clones of Logan, essentially building an army of Wolverines. Beast eventually passed away, but was later revived as a clone, with no memory of his evil deeds – though his reputation was permanently damaged. Remarkably, this is the primary version of Beast in the main timeline. None of his other versions have committed acts quite as terrible as these.
Shuri Became Killmonger
Exiles #10, created by Saladin Ahemed, Javier Rodríguez, Muntsa Vicente, Joe Caramagna, and Álvaro López, brought a fresh take on Killmonger to the Marvel universe. However, this isn’t the N’Jadaka fans know – it’s Shuri who takes on the role of the villain. This version of Shuri is fighting alongside other Exiles, including Skele-Thor and a corrupted version of Kamala Khan.
Typically, Shuri is either a supporting character, or she takes on the role of Black Panther directly. However, in the reality designated Earth-191110, she faced a much darker fate. Given that the MCU’s Shuri is still developing her skills as a superhero, it would be compelling to see her battle an evil version of herself.
Xavier the Witch King Wields Dark Magic
X-Treme X-Men Vol. 2, written by Greg Pak, centers on a group of mutants who are tracking down different versions of themselves from across the multiverse. One of these variants is Charles Xavier from Earth-13059, known as Xavier the Witch King. In this reality, Charles rules the land of Gha-No-Shah as a ruthless and powerful leader.
While Earth-616’s Charles Xavier is famous for his compassion and advocating for peace between humans and mutants, the Witch King stands for the opposite. He rules through fear, using his abilities solely for malicious purposes. Thanks to magical amplification of his telepathy, the Witch King can unleash energy blasts, disable technology, and manipulate the emotions of those around him, inciting sudden, irrational rage. He’s definitely a dangerous foe the MCU heroes would want to avoid.
Malice Is The Invisible Woman’s Dark Side
Okay, so things got *really* messed up when Psycho-Man’s Hate-Monger grabbed Sue Storm. He basically made her turn on the Fantastic Four, and that’s how Malice was born – she’s like, the worst parts of Sue given life. Even after Reed got Sue back to normal, Malice didn’t just *go away*. She stuck around in Sue’s head, constantly trying to take over. It was a huge internal struggle, so Sue made this crazy decision – she decided to merge with Malice. It totally changed her, though. She started acting more like an anti-hero, less about doing what’s strictly *right* and more about just getting things done, you know?
In an interview, Vanessa Kirby expressed her desire to see her character, Sue Storm, become a villain – specifically, Malice – within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actress also mentioned she intentionally brought elements of this villainess into her performance, aiming to avoid portraying Sue Storm as overly virtuous. Kirby is eager to explore this darker side of the character, and fans hope Marvel Studios shares her vision.
Scott Summers Is The Basilisk
In the mainstream Marvel Universe (Earth-616), Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops, is a well-known hero. However, in Earth-11326, he’s not Cyclops at all. Instead, he’s the Basilisk, a tool used by the government to kill mutants following the Emergency Powers Act, which gave the U.S. permission to do so. What makes this even more tragic is that he doesn’t want to participate in these executions. The government forcibly removed his eyelids to prevent him from controlling his powerful optic blasts.
The Basilisk isn’t a villain, but he represents a particularly dark take on Scott Summers. Even at his most villainous on Earth-616, he didn’t kill as many mutants as he did on Earth-11326. Luckily, he was able to find redemption by fighting alongside other mutants against humans.
Revenger Thor Is A Force Of Destruction
When the Many-Angled Ones conquered the Cancerverse, they twisted the Avengers into the Revengers. Thor Odinson, once the beloved and kind god fans admired, was transformed. He became a powerful, dark deity, consumed by violence and indifferent to fairness. He abandoned his heroic use of Mjolnir, instead wielding it as a tool for deadly punishment.
Over the course of four films, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thor has shifted from a powerful warrior to a more comedic character. If Avengers: Doomsday turns out to be Chris Hemsworth’s final appearance as the character, an antagonistic version of Thor represents a last opportunity for a darker, more faithful portrayal of the God of Thunder. A ‘Revenger’ Thor storyline could be particularly compelling, given the intriguing possibilities presented by the Cancer-verse.
Earth-717’s Bucky Never Stood A Chance
In the reality known as Earth-717, Captain America didn’t participate in World War II; instead, he fought in the Civil War. His commanding officer was Buck Barnes, a harsh and unforgiving military leader who eventually became the White Skull. This Bucky Barnes was beyond redemption. Even the friendship of Steve Rogers couldn’t have turned him into a decent person.
Having overcome a difficult history, Bucky in the MCU has come to terms with his actions as the Winter Soldier. Witnessing such a cold-hearted side of his former self would definitely cause him to think about what it means to be a hero.
The Maker Is Reed’s Worst Version
I remember when Reed Richards from Earth-1610 was this amazing, hopeful genius. But after the Ultimatum Wave, he lost absolutely everything. It’s so sad how he started giving in to his darkest side, thinking he could fix the world that way. It totally backfired and turned him into a villain! He became known as The Maker. And honestly, some of the things he did were just awful. I mean, he attacked Sue, created this horrifying army of mindless slaves, and even somehow evolved himself forward a thousand years! It’s a really tragic story.
It’s not surprising that fans hope to see some of Reed Richards’ many live-action versions appear in Avengers: Doomsday, as few Marvel heroes have had as many on-screen counterparts. The Maker is a particularly well-known variant from the Ultimate universe. Both Ioan Gruffudd and Miles Teller would be excellent choices for a cameo, and Marvel Studios simply needs to decide which actor to use.
Doom the Living Planet Enhanced Himself Into Godhood
On Earth-14412, King Loki destroyed all of humankind as an act of revenge against Thor. However, Victor von Doom was the sole survivor. Completely alone, he gathered various powerful artifacts – including the Starbrand, Iron Fist, the Eye of Agamotto, the Cloak of Levitation, and a Spirit of Vengeance – to greatly increase his own abilities. Ultimately, he transformed into a planetary being, much like Ego.
Given that Doctor Doom will be the antagonist in Avengers: Doomsday, appearing as Emperor God Doom, he might not require assistance from other versions of himself to pose a threat to the Avengers. However, if he *did* decide to assemble a team, Doom the Living Planet would be a very strong addition.
