Pokemon Fans Using Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream To Finally “Catch ‘Em All” on Switch

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream just launched, and Pokemon fans have already discovered a clever way to address a long-standing issue within the game on Nintendo Switch.

Rather than hoping Game Freak includes all the Pokémon in one game, players are using Nintendo’s new life simulation game to create and share their own versions of the complete Pokémon collection.

Starting with Pokémon Sword and Shield, games haven’t included all Pokémon species in a single release. While Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are the only Switch games with a dedicated National Pokédex, it only features the first 493 Pokémon.

While the Scarlet and Violet games added many new Pokémon with the Paldea, Kitakami, and Blueberry regions, players still can’t use all 1,000+ Pokémon in a single game. Even in games like Poképia and Pokémon Champions, only a limited selection of Pokémon are available, far less than the complete national Pokédex.

You can now share your custom island designs with friends on Tomodachi Plaza! We’re rolling out this feature throughout the day, so you’ll be able to upload even more images soon! 💛

Tomodachi Life offers a lot of creative freedom. Nintendo’s latest version lets you personalize your Miis and build your island more than ever before. Plus, you can now share what you’ve created with others once you unlock the Palette House workshop.

Players are now creating their own unique Pokémon designs using in-game tools. As highlighted by Tomodachi Plaza, they’re uploading and sharing these custom creations, and the site is already filled with dozens of examples.

Tomodachi Plaza recently showcased its new feature allowing players to upload custom designs. One post featured Axew, a Pokémon created by a community member and available for download. Beyond that, players are sharing tons of their own Pokémon creations on platforms like X and Reddit.

This has created an interesting situation for Pokémon fans. Even though the main series games still limit which Pokémon appear in each region, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is becoming a popular way for players to collect and play with any Pokémon they like – from well-known favorites like Pikachu to more obscure ones from recent games.

Players are using the game like a Pokemon playground by creating pixel-art versions of Pokemon as characters based on their Miis. And because people can share their creations online, these custom Pokemon aren’t limited to just one player’s game.

Tomodachi Life isn’t a replacement for the complete Pokémon collection, but it’s currently the only Switch game where players can gather all the Pokémon they love. Until Pokémon Wind & Waves comes out, it’s the closest fans will get to having a single game with every Pokémon.
