It was a truly touching story that concluded with a bittersweet, but satisfying, ending in 2022. Now, four years later, a new installment is coming to Hulu.
This isn’t a continuation of the show, and the original story won’t be altered. Instead, stars Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, and Chris Sullivan are starting a podcast called That Was Us, which will debut on Hulu on April 27th.
That Was Us Will Feature Unknown Secrets From This Is Us
Hulu announced on April 17th that it’s adding several new podcasts to its collection, alongside the podcasts it already licenses and creates to accompany its shows. Lauren Tempest, a Hulu executive, stated that these podcasts have dedicated fans and Hulu is excited to make them available to more people.
Tempest explained that podcasts are now a key part of what they offer, and as they create more shows, they’ll prioritize supporting creators and making programs that people are talking about.
Disney+ and Hulu offer podcasts that go along with some of their biggest shows, like Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Tell Me Lies, Daredevil: Born Again, and Ryan Murphy’s latest series, Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr & Carolyn Bessette.
In That Was Us, the stars Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, and Chris Sullivan – who played Rebecca, Randall, and Toby, respectively – revisit the Pearson family and reflect on the meaningful life lessons from the beloved series.
The upcoming podcast will give listeners a deeper look into the characters and plotlines of the show, with the actors sharing their thoughts and interesting stories from the set. While it’s hoped Chrissy Metz, Justin Hartley, and Milo Ventimiglia will participate, their appearances haven’t been confirmed. The podcast will also include interviews with other special guests.
Premiering in 2016, This Is Us rapidly became a fan favorite, celebrated for its heartwarming and honest portrayal of family life. Each season delved deeper into the emotional journeys of the Pearson family – parents and their three children – showcasing their struggles, love, and personal growth. The show is known for its touching depiction of resilience and striving to be a better person.
The show jumps between the past and present. We see the main characters grow up, from childhood to their teenage years, alongside what happens in the present day. A key element of the story is the sudden death of the family’s father, and how each family member copes with the loss.
The show was hugely popular, with 94% positive reviews over its six seasons and an 82% audience approval rating. It also received four Primetime Emmy Awards.
Sterling K. Brown Reunited With This Is Us Creator
Two years after the popular show This Is Us ended, Sterling K. Brown teamed up again with its creator, Dan Fogelman, for a new series called Paradise on Hulu. The show, which takes place after the end of the world, quickly gained a dedicated following and was performing well as it neared the end of its second season.
Meanwhile, Hartley found success with his , which has been renewed for Season 4.
That Was Us premieres on Hulu on Apr. 27. This Is Us is streaming on Hulu.
