Owlcat Games, the publisher, and Another Angle Games, the developer, have released a new trailer that gives a glimpse into the story of their upcoming computer role-playing game, Shadow of the Road.
A new trailer for Shadow of the Road was revealed at Gamestar’s Find Your Next Game event, showcasing the game’s factions and setting – a reimagined 19th century Japan. The game is scheduled to release this year on PC through Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, and a demo is currently available on Steam.

Another Angle Games’ tactical RPG, Shadow of the Road, recently revealed a new trailer showcasing its story and the warring factions within its setting. The game is set in a reimagined 19th-century Japan and was featured during Gamestar’s Find Your Next Game event. Shadow of the Road, published by Owclat Games, is scheduled to release later this year, with a specific date coming soon.
In Shadow of the Road, players experience a reimagined 19th-century Japan during the turbulent Bakumatsu Period. The country is fractured by warring factions and conflicting ideologies, and a band of travelers finds itself caught in the middle of a conflict between the Shōgun and the Emperor. This war is complicated by the presence of the East Nippon Company, which is equipping the Emperor’s army with powerful, advanced mechs, causing widespread destruction. Adding to the chaos are the kami and yōkai – mythical creatures from Japanese folklore – who also play a role with their own agendas.
Here are some of the key features of Shadow of the Road:
- Your Story: Join a daring journey led by Tokugawa’s spymaster, who recruits ronin warriors Satoru and Akira to protect a boy with immense, uncontrollable powers. As the adventure intensifies, they are joined by characters, each of whom has their own history and motivation. Together, they confront escalating challenges, striving to reclaim their honor and change the course of the war.
- Your Choices: Every choice guides these characters along unique paths, shaping who they become. Player decisions will determine if they form new bonds, sever lifelong friendships, or mend family ties.
- Your Team: Take on the role of a master strategist and become an elite team of characters with a variety of backgrounds and skills, each with their own motivations, desires, and fears, and set them on unique paths.
- Your Fight: Experience turn-based combat with a samurai tactical vibe. Each team member brings unique abilities to the battlefield, and their personal goals and relationships influence every encounter. Master these dynamics and strategic maneuvers to lead the team to victory.
