PS5 DualSense Controller With Removable Battery Reportedly On The Way

A recent report from German gaming news site PPE.pl suggests Sony is developing a new PlayStation 5 controller. The updated controller will reportedly feature a removable battery pack, much like the ones currently offered for Xbox controllers.

As VGC noticed, PPE.pl reports that this PS5 controller-apparently called the DualSense V3 internally-is expected to launch this November with a battery that can be removed and replaced. Details were limited, but PPE.pl’s source-a person named Graczdari, who accurately predicted the PS5 reveal of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and discovered the boxed version of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered-suggests the DualSense V3 will let you swap out the battery if needed, so you won’t have to purchase an entirely new controller when the battery finally stops working.

If the rumors are true and it’s released this November, the DualSense V3 is expected to become the new standard PS5 controller available for purchase in stores, replacing the current model on retail shelves.

The report indicates that Sony is developing a modestly updated PlayStation 5 Pro. This new version is expected to use 3% less power compared to the original PS5 and will include the DualSense V3 controller. However, it’s currently unknown whether this revised PS5 Pro console will be released in November. It remains to be seen if the release date will be on schedule.

PPE.pl has a history of reporting information correctly. For example, they accurately predicted the release of Dying Light on Nintendo Switch (which happened in October 2021, as they discovered), and they were the first to reveal that the physical copies of Doom: The Dark Ages don’t actually include the game data on the disc.

Sony held a large State of Play livestream on September 24, revealing a lot of information about many upcoming games. We found out that Team Ninja’s Nioh 3 will be released in February 2026, and both Housemarque’s Saros and Pearl Abyss’ Crimson Desert are scheduled for March 2026. Additionally, a remaster of Deus Ex is in development, and Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine is expected to launch next fall. Overall, next year looks promising.
