The DC Universe has gone through big changes since the DC K.O. event. Not only did Superman vanish, but many heroes also experienced visions warning them of a future crisis. Unexpectedly, this has caused a former Justice League member to betray his teammates, and the reasons why remain a mystery.
The shocking reveal of a hero turned villain happened in New Titans #34, written by Tate Brombal and illustrated by Sami Basri. The previous issue left the Titans stuck repeating the same events, forcing them to relive battles and personal struggles. The issue concluded with what seemed like the deaths of Donna Troy and Arsenal, and introduced new heroes Jon Kent, Wonder Girl, Batgirl, and Kid Devil.
A fight soon erupted, and the younger heroes told the Titans they’d been stuck in a virtual reality. They explained a former Justice League member, now acting as a villain, had put them there. The New Titans then revealed who had brought them together, and who among them was the traitor.
What Justice League member is now evil?
Vic Stone led the New Titans, but he wasn’t yet the Cyborg known for his cybernetic enhancements. The team’s Cyborg disappeared after it was revealed he was entirely mechanical. Vic explained this was a result of what happened after the DC K.O. event’s final battle.
When Vic was exposed to a powerful creative force, he was fully healed, but it also separated the mechanical parts of him, creating a new being called Cyborg. Despite becoming a separate entity, this new Cyborg still seemed to care about his former teammates in the Justice League and Titans, and attempted to create a perfect, lasting environment for them all. The reason for this isn’t fully understood, but it probably relates to his belief that he can prevent an upcoming, major crisis.
New Titans #34 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
