A new Nintendo Switch 2 firmware update is now available. However, don’t anticipate major new features. Version 20.5.0, released on September 29, primarily improves system stability.
The latest update includes improvements to overall system stability, which will make the user experience better. The patch notes simply state: “General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.”
OatmealDome, a social media user well-known for digging through update files to find hidden details not listed in official patch notes, reports that there’s “no info” about any surprises in this new update. However, OatmealDome also suggests the patch might include some fixes to improve compatibility with older versions of the software.
The September 29 update was the second firmware release for the Switch 2 this month. It followed version 20.4.0, which came out on September 1. No updates were available in August. This September 29 firmware brings the total number of updates for the Switch 2 to six since its launch in early June.
The Switch 2 has already sold over 6 million units, and that figure is expected to change soon. Nintendo will be releasing its latest earnings report on November 4th, which will include updated sales numbers.
