Chucky’s Future Revealed 2 Years After Cancellation

Well, folks, it’s bittersweet news for fans of the show. While it was sadly canceled after three seasons this year, don’t count out our favorite foul-mouthed doll just yet! I’m thrilled to report we’re finally getting a movie! It’s been a long time coming, but the little terror is headed back to the big screen, and I, for one, can’t wait to see what chaos ensues.

Don Mancini, the writer behind the original Child’s Play and subsequent films, recently discussed the future of Chucky at Steel City Con. According to Bloody Disgusting, he’s currently working on a new movie that will feel similar in tone to the 2013 film Curse of Chucky. Mancini also confirmed that this new installment will continue the established storyline, taking into account both the previous films and the recent TV series.

Chucky Is Heading Back to the Big Screen

With Curse of Chucky, the film series took a fresh start, focusing more on scares than humor. While it didn’t ignore past movies, connections were subtle and weren’t fully confirmed until near the end. This approach made it a great movie for newcomers while still giving longtime fans something to enjoy. It essentially allowed the film to work as a standalone story or as part of the larger franchise.

Mancini explained that the new movie will focus more on horror than comedy, similar to the original Child’s Play films and Curse of Chucky. He also confirmed it will be released in cinemas, not directly to TV or streaming services. The last official Chucky movie to play in theaters was Seed of Chucky in 2004, excluding the 2019 remake, which Mancini wasn’t involved with and isn’t connected to the rest of the series.

Sorry, Jack: Chucky’s Back!

Don Mancini first gained recognition as a co-writer on the original Child’s Play in 1988, which started the successful horror series. He then wrote the screenplays for Child’s Play 2, Child’s Play 3, and Bride of Chucky. He made his directorial debut with Seed of Chucky, and went on to both write and direct Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky. Most recently, he created the Chucky TV series, which aired from 2021 to 2024.

Brad Dourif has been the voice of Chucky since the very first film, and he’s expected to continue in the upcoming movie. His daughter, an actress, became part of the franchise with Curse of Chucky and has been a key player ever since. Jennifer Tilly’s character, Tiffany, has also been a popular favorite with fans since she first appeared in Bride of Chucky.

There has not yet been a release date set for the new Chucky movie.
