YouTube Premium Individual subscriptions are now more expensive, and as a result, many people have canceled their memberships.
Watching online videos is often interrupted by ads, so many platforms now offer subscription plans to remove them. YouTube is one of these, and its YouTube Premium service is a favorite among frequent viewers.
YouTube Premium comes in a few different plans. There’s a lighter version, Premium Lite, that doesn’t remove ads from YouTube Music. They also offer plans for individuals and families.
If you subscribe to YouTube Premium in the U.S., the price is going up, and the change will happen soon.
YouTube Premium price change revealed for US users
On April 9th, some YouTube Premium subscribers received an email informing them that the subscription price would be going up.
Some customers with individual plans will now pay $15.99 per month, up from $13.99. Family plan prices are increasing to $26.99. The price you pay may also vary depending on whether you renew your subscription on a computer or a mobile device.
We didn’t make this change easily, but it will help us continue to improve YouTube Premium and support the creators and artists you enjoy watching, according to a message from the platform.

The price increase has caused a lot of negative reactions online. Many people expressed frustration, with one user stating, “It’s not about the $2, it’s the idea behind it!” Others shared that they had already canceled their subscriptions in response.
One person said they were happy sticking with the free, ad-supported version, noting the $21 monthly price was too high. Another commenter joked that asking users to ‘support creators’ while charging more than Netflix seemed ironic.
YouTube has responded to concerns about long, unskippable ads – some lasting up to 90 seconds – that many users have been experiencing, even when watching on TV. Some viewers felt these lengthy ads were intentionally encouraging them to pay for a Premium subscription.
