I’m really looking forward to seeing Weapons, the new horror movie coming out in 2025! It’s directed and written by Cregger, and the premise is seriously creepy. It’s about this small town in Florida where 17 kids vanish at the same time – 2:17 AM, to be exact. Can you imagine the panic? Everyone starts getting paranoid, and the parents immediately suspect the kids’ teacher, Justine, played by Julia Garner. It sounds absolutely terrifying!

The celebrated director is famous for making popular films of all kinds, from movies the whole family can enjoy to gripping science fiction. He recently told Empire magazine that although he’s thought about directing a horror film, he doesn’t have any immediate plans to do so. He mentioned that other recent films, like Weapons, have already captured the suspense and fear he’d be aiming for, so he doesn’t feel the need to explore the genre at the moment.

Spielberg felt Weapons was such a successful horror film that it eliminated his desire to direct one himself. He was so satisfied watching it that he didn’t feel the need to create his own horror project, believing it couldn’t be surpassed.

I haven’t had the chance to direct a horror movie yet, but it’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and I might get around to it eventually. Luckily, there are already plenty of fantastic horror films out there to enjoy.

When I watch a truly excellent horror film like Weapons, I don’t feel inspired to create one myself. It’s so effective that it doesn’t leave me wanting to make something equally frightening—instead, it completely fulfills my desire to see a really scary movie, and that’s enough.

The movie Weapons was a huge hit with both critics and audiences. It earned $270 million worldwide and received numerous award nominations and wins, including at the Golden Globes and Oscars. Amy Madigan’s performance as Aunt Gladys was particularly celebrated, earning her a Best Supporting Actress award at the 98th Academy Awards.

Honestly, this movie did so much more than just make money or get good reviews. It really cemented Cregger’s place as a force to be reckoned with in horror. After Barbarian blew up, everyone was buzzing about what he’d do next, and a lot of us felt like he could genuinely shake up the genre. What really set it apart for me – and a lot of other people, I think – was the way the story unfolded, that super creepy atmosphere, and just how emotionally impactful the ending was. It wasn’t like anything else out there.

Steven Spielberg’s response to the film Weapons shows that even experienced directors can be inspired by other people’s work. The movie reminded him how much he enjoys the genre and respects the filmmakers who create it. It’s unusual for a film to both entertain viewers and have a direct impact on the film industry itself.
