Jumanji 3 May Put Avengers: Doomsday’s Box Office in Danger

The next Avengers movie is expected to be a huge success in 2026, but it might face strong competition from a new Jumanji film. This Avengers sequel will bring together a massive team, including the original Avengers, characters from Wakanda, the Fantastic Four, the New Avengers, and the X-Men, all uniting to fight Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.

The new Avengers movie, Avengers: Doomsday, is expected to be a huge hit and could become one of the highest-grossing films ever. However, it’s still uncertain if it will remain popular for a long time after its release. The film is scheduled to premiere on December 18, 2026, the same day as Dune: Part Three. A week later, on Christmas Day, a third Jumanji movie – a sequel to 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level – will also be released, though it doesn’t have a title yet.

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle Made It To #1 On Netflix

It’s been almost ten years since Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle revived the Jumanji series, following up on the original 1995 film starring Robin Williams. The movie quickly became the most popular film in the U.S., which shows how well-loved the franchise still is and suggests the new sequel will also be a hit.

Jake Kasdan’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle follows a group of teenagers who find themselves inside a Jumanji video game. To return to the real world, they have to finish a series of challenging quests. The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan, and it was a major success in 2017, becoming Sony’s highest-earning domestic film for a time and finishing as the fifth-highest-grossing movie of the year.

As a huge fan of the first Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, I was thrilled when Jumanji: The Next Level came out in 2019! It actually ended up being one of the biggest movies of the year, which wasn’t a surprise because it was so good. Jake Kasdan directed this one too, and they brought in some fantastic new faces like Awkwafina, Danny Glover, and Danny DeVito. The story picks up two years after the first movie, and honestly, both films have been really well-received by critics and audiences alike – they’re just a lot of fun!

Jumanji 3 Could Threaten Avengers: Doomsday’s Longevity at the Box Office

Given that Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is still widely enjoyed after almost ten years, it’s not surprising that people are excited about another Jumanji movie. While Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three are expected to be major draws, the new Jumanji film could be a surprisingly strong competitor at the box office and capture a significant audience.

It’s unclear how long Avengers: Doomsday will stay the number one movie in theaters. Although all eyes are on that film, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle did very well on Netflix, hinting that the new Jumanji movie might also be a hit. Both Jumanji films have great casts and are enjoyable for everyone, making the sequel a perfect choice for holiday viewing.

December 2026 is looking like a massive month for movie theaters, with three major releases scheduled very close together. While the Jumanji series might not be as widely popular as Marvel films, its appeal to families should ensure strong ticket sales. Audiences are still excited about Jumanji, and based on its performance on Netflix, many will likely go to the cinema to see the new movie.
