Jessica Chastain Emerges As Maxima Pick Amid Superman Casting Rumors in DCU Fan Art

DC Studios is searching for an actress to play Maxima in James Gunn’s upcoming projects. Although Jessica Chastain isn’t currently being considered, a fan created a photoshopped image of her as Superman, sparking some online buzz.

I just stumbled across some amazing fan art online! This artist, Minsc93 on DeviantArt, created a picture of Jessica Chastain as Maxima, and it’s seriously spot-on. They really nailed her comic book look – she’s wearing Maxima’s classic costume, and it’s a fantastic, true-to-the-source interpretation. I’ve included a link below so you can check it out yourself – it’s a must-see for any comic fans!

Could Jessica Chastain Play Maxima in Man of Tomorrow?

Jessica Chastain could potentially play Maxima in the upcoming Man of Tomorrow movie, given her experience playing the alien villain Vuk in the 2019 Dark Phoenix film. However, current casting news suggests she isn’t being considered for the role, as her name hasn’t appeared in any reports about who might play Maxima.

Deadline reported on Wednesday that Ella Purnell (known for Fallout), Adria Arjona (Andor), and Marisa Abela (Black Bag) are being considered for the role of Maxima in Man of Tomorrow, the follow-up to last year’s Superman. However, the report was later dismissed as inaccurate.

Shortly after, The Hollywood Reporter revealed some of the actors being considered for the next DC Universe project. They reported that actors Xolo Maridueña, Eva De Dominici (from The Cleaning Lady), Sydney Chandler (Alien: Earth), and Grace Van Patten (Tell Me Lies) had auditioned earlier this week in Atlanta. DC Studios has not confirmed these reports.

Maxima debuted in DC Comics’ Action Comics #645 in 1989, created by Roger Stern and George Pérez. Over the past four decades, she’s been portrayed as a villain, a friend, and even a potential romantic partner for Superman. While she’s previously appeared in live-action TV shows – Smallville (played by Charlotte Sullivan) and Supergirl (played by Eve Torres Gracie) – Man of Tomorrow will mark her first appearance in a live-action film.

Man of Tomorrow Serves as a Follow-Up to James Gunn’s Superman

Before Superman came out last year, James Gunn announced he was already working on the next Superman movie. In September, he officially confirmed the sequel, titled Man of Tomorrow, with a planned release in 2027. David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are set to star as Clark Kent/Superman and Lex Luthor, respectively.

Lars Eidinger joins the cast, and Rachel Brosnahan, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Frank Grillo, Isabela Merced, and María Gabriela de Faría will return as Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Eve Teschmacher, Rick Flag Sr., Hawkgirl, and The Engineer, respectively, from the previous Superman film.

He’s returning to play John Stewart/Green Lantern, marking his second appearance in the new DC Universe after the premiere of the upcoming HBO series Lanterns.

Production on Man of Tomorrow is starting this month in Atlanta. James Gunn will direct the movie, which he also wrote. The film, a continuation of the Superman story, is planned for release on July 9, 2027, and will be the fourth movie in the new DC Universe.
