The company may lay off up to 1,000 workers after recently appointing a new CEO, who has been in the role for just a few weeks.
Disney, now led by CEO Josh D’Amaro, has begun its first round of job cuts. The company is expected to lay off as many as 1,000 workers as it works to simplify and improve its movie, TV, and streaming production processes.
Disney currently employs a little over 230,000 people worldwide, according to their most recent financial report. Although this number makes the announced layoffs appear small, most Disney employees work part-time at its theme parks. This means the planned cuts to full-time production and creative teams could be more significant than it seems.
