Freida McFadden, the author of many popular books, has finally shared who she is after keeping her private life hidden for years.
Freida McFadden, the author of popular suspense novels like The Housemaid, had been publishing under a pen name while also working in a different profession. As her books gained more readers, people became increasingly curious about who she really was.
I’m so excited to hear that the author is finally stepping into the spotlight! After her books became such a hit, and with the movie starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried doing so well – and now a sequel, ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’, is on the way – it’s great she feels ready to do more.
McFadden recently told USA Today that he’s ready to be open about who he is. He’s frustrated by the ongoing speculation about his identity, including rumors that he isn’t a single person. He wants to make it clear: he is a real person with a genuine identity and has nothing to hide.
Freida McFadden reveals she is doctor Sara Cohen
Beyond her writing, McFadden is actually Sara Cohen, a doctor specializing in brain disorders. She initially chose a pen name to maintain a distinction between her two careers – writing and medicine.
She wanted to keep it private until she left her medical position, so her colleagues wouldn’t find out unexpectedly and it wouldn’t affect her work.
Dr. Cohen reduced her medical work in late 2023, now only practicing occasionally. She explained that as her writing career took off, it became too difficult to manage both her medical practice and her books.

Her colleagues eventually discovered who she was, but they respected her privacy and didn’t tell anyone, meaning many of them didn’t realize they were working with a famous author. Now, she’s started sharing copies of her books with people at the hospital.
McFadden often went to great lengths to keep her identity secret, sometimes wearing a wig and glasses when in public. She explained that while she genuinely needed glasses, the wig was just a way to avoid dealing with her hair when she didn’t have time to style it.
Despite revealing her real name, she emphasized that her connection with readers has not changed.
She explained that even though she hadn’t revealed her name before, she felt she’d always been open and honest with her audience. While the name itself might be unexpected, she believes everything else she’s shared has been truthful and authentic. She prides herself on being genuine with her readers.
