The highly acclaimed science fiction mystery series is officially coming back, and we now have a better idea of when to expect it. Often compared to HBO’s The Last of Us, the show starts with a devastating snowstorm that leads to a worldwide catastrophe, leaving a small group of people to fight against a strange and dangerous threat.
Premiering last year, The Eternaut is a six-episode sci-fi series adapted from the acclaimed comic book by Héctor Germán Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López. Created and directed by Bruno Stagnaro, with writing contributions from Ariel Staltari, the show quickly became a streaming success. Following its near-perfect 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it was renewed for a second season in May and is now one of the most anticipated sci-fi returns on the platform.
Francisco Ramos, VP of Content for Latin America, recently announced that Season 2 of The Eternaut is coming soon (according to Deadline). He also hinted that the new season of the post-apocalyptic series will be even more intense than the first.
We’re aiming much higher this time around. While early work is underway – mostly involving visual effects planning – we haven’t scheduled the actual filming with the actors yet. This season is significantly larger than the first, not just financially, but in terms of its overall scale and ambition.
Fans of the first season won’t be surprised to hear that the show is planning some big changes for its next installment. Without giving away any plot details, Ramos hinted at exciting developments and even suggested a third season might be in the works.
We need to ensure we meet all our goals for Season 2, and also make sure we can continue the project if we get a Season 3.
Good news for fans of The Eternaut: Season 2 is moving forward with development! Creator Ramos hopes to start filming soon and is aiming for a 2027 release on Netflix, though he says he can’t make any firm promises just yet.

Starring Ricardo Darín (known from films like Argentina, 1985 and The Secret in Their Eyes), The Eternaut Season 1 captivated viewers with its story of a devastating snowfall that leaves much of the population stranded. The series begins with a simple post-apocalyptic scenario, but quickly evolves into something much larger when the survivors realize the snowstorm was just the first move in an invasion by a foreign army. This sets the stage for an even more thrilling adventure in future seasons – potentially Season 2 and beyond – though fans will likely have to wait a while for the next installment.
