Patrick Ball, a rising star on HBO’s The Pitt, recently shared in a heartfelt interview how the show helped him pay off $80,000 in student loans.
HBO’s ‘The Pitt’ has been a huge success, attracting a large audience and winning numerous awards, including Emmys and Golden Globes.
Noah Wyle, known for his role on ER, leads the cast, but the show has also launched the careers of many previously unknown actors. Patrick Ball, in particular, stands out with a compelling and sensitive portrayal of complex senior resident Frank Langdon.
We learned about Langdon’s past struggles with addiction in the first season of the show. The current season focuses on his efforts to get his career and public image back on track. In a recent interview, the actor shared that getting this role was a turning point that helped save his career.
Patrick Ball paied off his student loan three months into The Pitt

I’ve always been impressed by Patrick Ball’s dedication! He really paid his dues with years of local theater before heading to the University of North Carolina for his BFA. That degree then let him build on his earlier training – a certificate from the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale – and finally earn his MFA. It’s awesome to see someone work so hard to achieve their goals!
Honestly, those acting gigs really hit my wallet hard. When Cultured magazine asked me how I felt now that things were finally going well, I actually started tearing up. I told them…
Paying off my student loans just three months after starting at Pitt was a huge relief. I honestly thought I’d be paying them off for the rest of my life, and it was a massive weight off my shoulders. Like many people, I had a lot of debt – around $80,000 – and my financial struggles had caused problems in past relationships.
I honestly believed that difficult period would last forever, and that was a tough realization. Finally paying off my student loans and reaching a point where I wasn’t in debt was a huge relief. I remember thinking, ‘If this TV show succeeds, fantastic. But even if it fails, at least they can’t take away the fact that I’m debt-free.’ It was a permanent accomplishment, and I was determined to hold onto that feeling.
Fortunately, Ball is doing well both financially and professionally. He’s currently performing on Broadway with Alden Ehrenreich in the popular new play ‘Beck Shaw,’ and his show, ‘The Pitt,’ has already been renewed for a third season before the second season even finished airing.
