A villain previously believed to be dead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Netflix shows is unexpectedly coming back. Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again is currently airing, and fans are really enjoying it. But the biggest twist is still to come, and it will connect the story to its beginnings.
The new trailer for Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again quickly revealed the return of James Wesley, a villain previously seen in the Netflix Daredevil series. Unlike previous glimpses, this time viewers got a clear, unobstructed look at Toby Leonard Moore reprising the role, seated in a car with Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) at the 0:53 mark.

Though briefly seen with Fisk in an earlier preview, Wesley was blurry and in the background. The new mid-season trailer gives a much clearer view of the character, seemingly using footage from the same scene.

Wesley played a hugely important role in the Daredevil universe. He was the consistently faithful second-in-command to Wilson Fisk in the original Netflix series.

Throughout the first season, he was Kingpin’s closest advisor and fiercely loyal to Wilson Fisk’s ambition. He handled the dangerous and unpleasant tasks that protected Fisk’s criminal organization, and the strong on-screen connection between him and D’Onofrio created one of the show’s most captivating relationships. It’s remarkable to see how much their situation has evolved since then.
Returning Villains in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3
Kingpin

Everyone knows Vincent D’Onofrio as the iconic Kingpin, and it would be surprising if he wasn’t involved in Season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again. Even though the storyline involving Mayor Fisk is expected to wrap up in Season 2, the character of Kingpin still has plenty of story left to tell.
Dario Scardapane, the showrunner, emphasized that the new series will recapture the gritty, grounded feel of Frank Miller’s original Daredevil comics. As he told The New York Times, the conflict between the characters is ongoing: “The story never ends with these two.”
Bullseye

At the SPACECON event in San Antonio in October 2025, Wilson Bethel announced that his character would be back for Season 3, stating, “There will be more Bullseye coming up.”
Just a quick update: we’ve been renewed for another season, which we’ll begin filming next year! You can expect more of Bullseye, Kingpin, and all your favorite characters.
Even though it might have been a mistake, fans were thrilled with the hint of Bullseye’s return. After Season 2’s fourth episode received praise for its fantastic action sequences featuring Benjamin Poindexter, the idea of seeing more of the character – even though he’s responsible for Foggy’s death – is very exciting.
Buck Cashman

I’m so excited to hear Arty Froushan is coming back as Buck Cashman! He’s Fisk’s top enforcer now, and really stepped up after Wesley was gone. He’s a seriously dangerous guy, and I can’t wait to see what he does next.
During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Wilson Fisk actor, Jay Ali, revealed he will be filming scenes for the third season of the Marvel series Daredevil in the spring.
The second half of Season 2 has plenty more surprises in store, but fans hoping to see Buck die will likely be disappointed.
Sheila Rivera

Recent photos from the set of Born Again Season 3 show that Sheila Rivera is returning for the new season, and she may even be playing the Mayor. Zabryna Guevara will reprise her role, and after previously working for Wilson Fisk as his campaign manager, Rivera becoming mayor could add a surprising twist to the last four episodes.
This fits with the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which shows Spider-Man getting the Key to the City from Rivera at a public event. Guevara confirmed she’s in the movie on Instagram, becoming the fourth character from the Daredevil series to appear in a major MCU film.
Wesley’s Return In Daredevil: Born Again

The complex relationship between James Wesley and Wilson Fisk ended violently when Karen Page shot and killed Wesley in the first season of the Netflix series Daredevil. This impulsive act dramatically altered Karen’s life and left Fisk without a key confidant – someone who genuinely understood him.

The video seems to show Wesley returning through a flashback. He appears as he did in the first season of the Netflix series, without the eye scar he got during the events of Hawkeye.
While bringing Wesley back now might not make sense, exploring the time when Fisk was first becoming powerful could be really appealing to fans who have followed the show for a while.
The next episode could show us Kingpin’s past through Wesley, revealing the person he was before becoming mayor and reminding viewers just how dangerous he truly is despite his public image.
The latest information suggests the upcoming season will explore Matt Murdock’s (Charlie Cox) beginnings as a crimefighter and how his rivalry with Fisk started. This could also explain the return of Foggy Nelson, who was previously killed off by Bullseye in Season 1 of Born Again.
