Ice Cube’s 2025 Action Comedy To Get a Sequel — Report

Sony Pictures is considering a sequel to their hit movie, featuring Ice Cube and the rest of the cast. An industry source says the team behind the popular action-comedy, which was a big success last holiday season, might be getting back together for another film sooner than people think. This suggests a follow-up to the reboot could be in the works.

Anaconda 2 rumored to be in works

Sources say Sony is working on a follow-up to their planned 2025 reboot of ‘Anaconda.’ The news comes from industry insider MyTimeToShineHello, who shared the information on X.

I was so excited for the 2025 movie! It was directed by Tom Gormican and brought back Paul Rudd and Jack Black, playing childhood friends who try to recreate the original film from 1997 – but this time, in the Amazon rainforest! It was a really interesting idea, kind of a movie about making a movie. It actually did pretty well at the box office, earning $135 million worldwide on a $45 million budget. Though, opinions were definitely mixed – Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 48% approval rating based on reviews from 155 critics.

The 1997 movie Anaconda, directed by Luis Llosa and starring Jennifer Lopez and Ice Cube, earned $136.8 million worldwide. Since then, it spawned three sequels, a team-up with the Lake Placid movies, a remake in China, and now a 2025 reboot by Gormican. Interestingly, the 2025 film included a post-credits scene where Jennifer Lopez played herself and jokingly asked Doug to make a real reboot of the series.

A source named MyTimeToShineHello reported on April 9, 2026, that a sequel to the recent Anaconda reboot is in the works. While Sony hasn’t confirmed this, the first film became available on Netflix on March 25, 2026, potentially building anticipation for a follow-up.

The reboot generally pleased audiences, receiving a “B” grade in post-screening polls from moviegoers. During filming, Rudd and Black switched roles, with Black taking the lead after requesting it and Rudd adapting to the change. According to Variety’s Peter Debruge, the biggest gamble with the film was simply asking Sony and the original cast members to playfully make fun of themselves.

Sony has not confirmed any cast or crew attachments for the reported sequel.
