This is unusual for most Marvel Cinematic Universe content, but faith is a core element of Matt’s character and was significant throughout all three seasons of the popular Netflix Daredevil series. This scene is a welcome addition, especially considering a similar moment was missing from the first season.

This became a major point of criticism for Marvel fans, as Matt’s Catholic beliefs are central to his internal struggle with being Daredevil and doing what’s right.

The first season of Daredevil: Born Again largely ignored Matt Murdock’s religious faith, which is a core part of what makes the character compelling. However, season 2 addresses this by bringing his faith back into focus. In episode 4, Matt revisits the church where he spent his childhood as an orphan, effectively correcting a significant flaw from the first season by reconnecting him to his spiritual side in a meaningful location.

How Faith Impacts Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

Season 2 of the show explores faith not only through Matt Murdock, but also through another character. Before Matt visited Clinton Church, Bullseye, played by Wilson Bethel, had been there seeking Sister Maggie – Matt’s mother, who was on a year-long leave in Rome – and appeared to be trying to make amends for his past.

In episode 4, Bullseye is driven by a desire to redeem himself through a single good act. He was previously manipulated by Vanessa Fisk into killing Foggy Nelson, and now believes a positive deed can somehow make amends. However, the episode ends with Bullseye apparently killing Vanessa, leaving his path to redemption uncertain.
