Marvel’s X-Men Reboot Won’t Show Its Most Popular Mutant — Report

I’m hearing some interesting – and honestly, a little shocking – news about Marvel’s upcoming X-Men reboot. Apparently, they’re considering leaving out one of the most famous mutants entirely! The director and writers are clearly aiming for a fresh take on the franchise, which is cool, but it seems like this particular character won’t be part of the initial plan, at least not yet. It’s a bold move, and I’m definitely curious to see how it all plays out.

Why Wolverine may not appear in Marvel’s X-Men reboot movie

A source claiming to be familiar with the production, known as MyTimeToShineHello, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Wolverine won’t appear in the latest draft of the script for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe X-Men movie.

This news builds on earlier reports from Daniel RPK, who said that Wolverine won’t be part of the initial MCU X-Men reboot. This matches a rumour that started circulating back in September 2023.

The initial report originated with a source named CanWeGetSomeToast, who shared this information over a year ago. Daniel RPK also suggested a connection to Hugh Jackman continuing to play Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially given the anticipated success of Deadpool & Wolverine. According to RPK, the rest of the team will resemble the characters from the X-Men ’97 animated series, with Wolverine excluded as long as Hugh Jackman remains involved, potentially even after the Secret Wars storyline.

Hugh Jackman is confirmed to return as Wolverine in the upcoming Marvel movies, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Interestingly, Henry Cavill recently made a cameo as a different version of Wolverine, playfully nicknamed “Cavillrine,” in the trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine.

A social media account, CanWeGetSomeToast, suggested Wolverine wasn’t initially included because of the comic book storyline. They explained that in the original comics, Wolverine joined the X-Men after the Weapon X program – which is how he got his Adamantium skeleton – was established, and Adamantium has only recently been introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Director Jake Schreier has confirmed that a reboot is currently being developed. Lee Sung Jin, the creator of Beef, and Joanna Calo, a co-showrunner on The Bear, are writing the screenplay. Schreier told Collider he’s aiming for a unique approach with the film, and highlighted the writers’ talent for turning small, personal moments into large-scale stories.
