Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Missed A Golden Opportunity For An Epic Finale

As a big fan, I was really hoping the ending of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 would be amazing, a truly grand finale. It felt like they heard what people didn’t love about the first movie and tried to go all out with this sequel. They definitely upped the ante – more animatronics, bigger dangers, and a lot more jump scares than before. It just didn’t quite stick the landing for me, though, and I think it could have been so much more.

The film’s ending has received some criticism for not being very exciting. The final scenes happen inside Mike and Abby’s new house, where Michael Afton, a surprise new villain, commands the Toy Animatronics to attack the siblings and even his own sister, Vanessa.

The movie tries for a grand finale with the original animatronics defeating the newer toys, but it doesn’t quite work. It feels disappointing because the film had been hinting at a much more satisfying conclusion – a festival called FazFest – throughout its runtime.

FazFest Could Have Been A Perfect Raise In Stakes From The First Film

Throughout Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, the characters frequently mention FazFest, a big festival meant to celebrate Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. It’s described as a lively event with costumes, games, and contests. The movie briefly shows what FazFest is like when the Toy Animatronics escape from the original pizzeria.

As a fan of the series, I always felt a huge festival setting would have been ideal for the climax of the second film. Imagine the sheer panic! With so many people around, the stakes would instantly be higher than in the first one. Plus, the animatronics would have a buffet of potential victims, and a truly chaotic, large-scale massacre in town could have given the series the boost it really needed. It just felt like a missed opportunity to really amp up the tension and horror.

The sequel unfortunately repeats many of the same plot points as the first film. Placing the climax in another remote location with Mike, Abby, and Vanessa facing a new threat feels unoriginal. While the toys briefly attempt to harm some parents, this leads to a predictable final fight where the original animatronics once again rescue the main characters.

The Film Acknowledging The Potential Of FazFest Makes The Ending Frustrating

The biggest disappointment with the ending of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is that it hints FazFest would have been a much more impactful setting for the climax. Michael Afton reveals his plan to use the Toy Animatronics to cause a mass killing at FazFest, and the other characters realize how dangerous this is.

It’s disappointing that the movie establishes the characters understand the potential chaos, but then doesn’t actually show it happening. As a visual medium, a film of this scale needed to deliver on that promise to truly stand out, especially as a sequel. The movie missed an opportunity to create a high-stakes moment that would have justified making a second film and ultimately dropped a promising concept.

With a new Five Nights at Freddy’s movie coming, the filmmakers need to create a unique ending, different from the previous two films. It looks like the next movie won’t involve the FazFest event; instead, the post-credits scene suggests it will be set in the spooky horror attraction featured in the third game.

Instead, the filmmakers need to create a story that avoids just repeating the same old pattern of robots fighting the heroes.

Overall, the ending of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 was a major disappointment. It had the potential to be a fantastic finale, but it missed the mark, and unfortunately didn’t follow up on the story established in the first game in a satisfying way.
