A popular theory linking the Disney+ show The Mandalorian to the Maul – Shadow Lord storyline has been disproven. Shadow Lord is a recent addition to the Star Wars universe, focusing on Darth Maul and his return with his signature double-bladed lightsaber. The series initially led some fans to believe there might be early connections to The Mandalorian, but that idea has now been shown to be incorrect.
The Star Wars comic Maul – Shadow Lord introduced a new character, Rook Kast, voiced by veteran Star Wars actress Vanessa Marshall (known for playing Hera Syndulla in the animated series). During the Clone Wars, Rook works with Darth Maul as part of his Shadow Collective, assisting him in establishing a base on Janix, a planet outside the control of the Galactic Empire.

Kast, like Maul, hails from the planet Mandalore. After defeating Pre Vizsla in combat, Maul rose to power as the planet’s leader. Kast was among the first Mandalorians to support him, customizing her armor with his colors.

Many fans think Rook Kast, a character from The Mandalorian, might actually be The Armorer, played by Emily Swallow. Both characters wear similar red armor, and The Armorer is one of the few members of the Children of the Watch who understands the Jedi – and sees them as enemies, just like Kast did. This has led to speculation that they are the same person.

The idea that The Armorer might not follow the Mandalorian code was quickly proven wrong in the first few episodes of Maul – Shadow Lord. Fans know she’s dedicated to the code, just like Din Djarin, and belongs to a very strict clan. This clan consistently keeps their helmets on, which is a key part of the show’s established history throughout all three seasons.

The new animated series, Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord, continues the story begun in The Clone Wars and Rebels. Featuring the voices of Sam Witwer, Vanessa Marshall, Chris Diamantopoulos, Dennis Haysbert, and A.J. LoCascio, the show follows Maul as he operates within the galactic criminal underworld on the planet Janix following the Jedi Order’s defeat. The first two episodes are now available to stream on Disney+.
Coincidental Connections Between Rook Kast & The Armorer in Maul Disney+ Show

Fans have long speculated that The Armorer and Rook Kast are the same person, a theory first suggested in the book Star Wars: The Mandalorian Visual Guide. The book implies The Armorer was once connected to the Shadow Collective, noting the horns on her helmet are artificial and represent a connection to her past.
This suggests the character’s connection to Maul, which would fit if she is indeed Rook Kast. However, even though The Armorer has worked with Maul before, that doesn’t prove or even help us figure out if this character is Kast. Ultimately, we won’t know for sure until Star Wars officially confirms her identity.
With no current plans for The Armorer to reappear in Star Wars, fans will have to be patient to find out if a particular theory about her holds true. Meanwhile, we’ll see more of Rook Kast’s story in the upcoming Maul series, where she’ll be working with him on Janix to create something frightening and rise to power alongside one of the most formidable Sith Lords ever known.
