I’ve always thought Glen Powell was one of Hollywood’s most promising actors – he’s definitely someone to watch!
When actors become famous, people often look back at their earlier work to see where they started. For Powell, that role is Dave in . While fans of the series consistently praise it, many don’t realize it also showcased some of the qualities that would later make him a star.
Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous Doesn’t Get a Lot of Attention in the Franchise or For Glenn Powell
Television series related to big franchises often don’t get the recognition they deserve. Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous told the story of kids who were stuck on Isla Nublar during the events of the Jurassic World movies, specifically when the Indominus Rex broke loose. The show’s first season ran alongside the first two films, providing extra details and filling in some of the gaps in the movie storylines.
Despite being a Netflix exclusive with limited promotion, the show struggled to achieve widespread recognition beyond its dedicated fanbase. However, it provided an early opportunity for both actors to gain exposure, as neither was as well-known at the time, although Glen Powell had already been in several projects.
Honestly, seeing Powell join Camp Cretaceous just reinforced how underrated that show – and the whole franchise it built on – always was, no matter how strong it was or who lent their voice. But I was especially thrilled with his character, Dave. He brought so much fun to the Jurassic world, and Dave’s story arc ended up being one of the best in the entire series, in my opinion.
Powell’s Role as Glen in Camp Cretaceous Teased His on-Screen Skills
When Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous begins, the kids who become known as the Nublar Six were being looked after by camp counselors Dave and Roxie. While Roxie was definitely the stricter one, Dave was much more of a fun-loving, easygoing guy. The actor really brought his naturally goofy personality to the role – you can see that same energy in everything he’s done, even Chad Powers! But what I loved about Camp Cretaceous is that Dave felt even more real and relatable. Unlike some other Jurassic stories, there weren’t any over-the-top gimmicks, so it was just a genuine character reacting to an insane situation.
Despite everything, Dave faced several genuinely frightening situations during the show. A particularly memorable one involved him and Roxie seeking directions amidst the chaotic radio chatter of people trying to control the dinosaurs. As the dinosaurs picked off and ate members of the containment team, lights began flashing red, creating a terrifying atmosphere. This was especially stressful for Dave, who was responsible for the children’s safety, and now they were in harm’s way.
He also powerfully showed his concern for Kenji and Darius when he scolded them for being somewhere they weren’t supposed to be. His reaction, delivered through voice acting, highlighted how effectively this medium can convey emotion and really showed the importance of the performance.
Beyond that, the episode highlighted that Powell’s charm and natural appeal were perfect for the character of Dave, hinting at the popularity he’d achieve later on. It also made Dave’s return in Season 5—to finally carry out his plan and save the kids—especially touching, considering he hadn’t been seen for three seasons and was greatly missed by viewers.
Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous Gave Fans the Best of Glen Powell and No One Noticed
I’ve been noticing a lot of buzz around Glen Powell lately, and people are acting like he just appeared with all this charm and comedic timing. But honestly, as a longtime movie fan, I always saw that potential in him! It’s not like he suddenly developed these talents; he’s always had them. It just feels like he’s finally getting roles that really let his personality and skills shine through for everyone to see.
Everyone loved Dave because of the actor’s incredible performance. Powell had a rare gift for bringing the character to life so fully that audiences connected with Dave himself, even though it was just a voice acting role.
Despite appearing infrequently throughout the show, fans consistently expressed a desire to see more of Dave. He carried a strong sense of responsibility for finding the children and felt deeply when he couldn’t. Seeing him finally succeed in the last season was incredibly satisfying, and it’s just one example of his many successful voice acting performances over the years.
Even though the animation isn’t always cutting-edge, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous is a show that’s definitely worth checking out. It’s surprisingly thoughtful and actually addresses many of the complaints people had about the Jurassic World films. Plus, the voice acting is fantastic, and Glen Powell is a standout – his character, Dave, is a great example of how talent can shine when given the right opportunity.
