CD Projekt Red and Sony have announced that the PlayStation 5 Pro update for Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on April 8th, adding three new ways to experience the game’s visuals.
On PlayStation 5 Pro, Cyberpunk 2077 will have three graphics modes: Ray Tracing Pro, Ray Tracing, and Performance, each offering a different level of visual quality and speed. The game will also take advantage of the improved PSSR upscaling technology that was previously announced.

The complete edition of Cyberpunk 2077 is now available for Nintendo Switch 2 and macOS, in addition to existing platforms like PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. You can find my review of the Ultimate Edition on Switch 2 here.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a game about advanced technology, and we try to reflect that spirit in how we create it. Many players have been requesting this for a while, so we’re thrilled to announce the free PlayStation 5 Pro update, launching tomorrow, April 8th.
We aimed to fully utilize the PS5 Pro’s powerful new technology to elevate Cyberpunk 2077 with stunning 4K graphics, improved performance, and more realistic lighting effects. Our goal was to make Night City look its absolute best by combining the capabilities of the new hardware with our game. Now, PlayStation Plus members with a PS5 Pro can enjoy this enhanced version of our action RPG and become a cyberpunk legend.
This update dramatically improves how players experience the game, starting with a new technology called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). PSSR uses powerful AI to enhance each individual pixel, making everything in Night City look stunningly detailed. From the glow of a thermal katana to the characters on the street and fast cars, everything feels more vibrant and realistic.
We’ve enhanced our ray tracing technology to make the lighting in Cyberpunk 2077 even more realistic and immersive. Lighting is central to the game’s look and feel – the way Night City transitions from day to night and the glow of neon signs are key parts of its identity. The PS5 Pro Update introduces BVH8 support, which improves ray-traced lighting, shadows, and reflections, bringing the game closer to our original artistic vision. Picture sunlight glinting off your motorcycle or exploring dark alleys lit by neon – the PS5 Pro significantly boosts your immersion in the world of Cyberpunk 2077.
With the increased power of the PS5 Pro, players have more ways to customize their gaming experience. We’re offering three different modes to suit everyone’s preferences. The ‘Ray Tracing Pro’ mode maximizes visual quality in games like Cyberpunk 2077, activating all ray tracing features – including reflections, shadows, and lighting effects. In this mode, Cyberpunk 2077 aims for a smooth 40 frames per second on compatible displays, or 30 frames per second on other screens.
As a huge Cyberpunk 2077 fan, I’m really excited about the PS5 Pro options! If you want the smoothest possible gameplay, Performance mode is the way to go – especially with a VRR display, where it can hit up to 90 frames per second without sacrificing too much visual quality. But if you want the best balance between stunning graphics and a solid frame rate, the Ray Tracing mode is perfect. It gives you select ray tracing features while still keeping things running at a smooth 60 frames per second, which is a win-win for everyone. It really feels like they’ve improved everything!
We’re thrilled to release this update for Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5 Pro! The support from our community over the past five years has been amazing, and we know many of you have been eagerly waiting for this. And with Cyberpunk 2077 now available as part of the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalogs, we’re excited to introduce even more players to Night City.
I truly appreciate your ongoing support for Cyberpunk 2077, and I hope everyone who plays it has a fantastic time!
