Borderlands 4 Gets New Vault Hunter In Early 2026

While Borderlands 4 experienced some initial performance problems after launch, Gearbox Studios is already focusing on what’s next. They’ve already confirmed the first downloadable content (DLC) will arrive next year. Now, they’re excited to introduce a new playable character, a vault hunter named C4sh.

Gearbox describes C4sh as a former casino dealer robot who now wanders around, seeking out the thrill of incredibly rare and dangerous ancient objects. He-or it-will first appear in the first story pack DLC, which tells a new story called Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned. C4sh is one of two new vault hunters Gearbox has hinted at, but the other one’s identity remains a mystery. Learn more here.

So, I saw the announcement and had to share my own little theory – what I like to call my “head canon” – about how Claptrap and C4sh actually relate to each other. As the guy who voices Claptrap, Jim Foronda, I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and it’s fun to finally share my take!

A quick, totally unofficial thought:
Claptrap somehow got it into his head that he started the trend of saying the number 4 as the letter ‘A’… and now he’s convinced C4SH is his number one fan on Kairos.

C4sh and the first story pack DLC are scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2026. Additionally, Gearbox is planning several free updates, such as seasonal mini-events, incredibly difficult bosses that seem unbeatable, and other extra content.

Currently, Gearbox has launched a new update for Borderlands 4, aiming to fix problems with how stable and well the game runs. The developers have also proposed a somewhat surprising solution for ongoing issues with the PC version. Gearbox Studios CEO Randy Pitchford has been in the news for responding to player complaints about the game’s performance, and has offered advice to improve how it runs on both PC and consoles. Pitchford also mentioned that an update specifically for the PS5 Pro is currently being developed.

The release of Borderlands 4 on the Switch 2, which was originally planned for October 3rd, has been pushed back with no new release date announced. It is now delayed indefinitely.
