‘Contagion’ Sequel Not Happening, Says Director Steven Soderbergh

I remember when Contagion came out in 2011 – it was a really gripping thriller! For years, people have been wondering if Steven Soderbergh would ever make a sequel. Then, when COVID-19 hit in 2020, the movie suddenly blew up! It was crazy seeing how much it mirrored what was actually happening, and everyone started streaming it. Director Steven Soderbergh added to the speculation about a Contagion sequel when he shared plans to create one with Scott Z. Burns, the original film’s screenwriter. He explained it wouldn’t be a direct continuation of the story, but rather a “philosophical sequel” examining similar ideas in a new setting. He recently confirmed they were still working on the project and had come up with a “terrifying” concept for a post-COVID storyline. Despite this, no studio has officially announced that the sequel is in development.
