Malcolm in the Middle is returning to television, and Bryan Cranston is fully on board. However, fans will always remember the incredibly memorable scene where his character was swarmed by ten thousand bees.
The new season of Malcolm in the Middle, called Life’s Still Unfair, will be available on Hulu this Friday, April 10th, with all four episodes released at once.
The actor who originally played Dewey, Erik Per Sullivan, didn’t return for the new film, despite reportedly being offered a very large sum of money to do so.
Frankie Muniz is reprising his role as the main character, and Bryan Cranston is back as his quirky dad, Hal – you might remember him for a famously crazy stunt involving bees!
How Malcolm in the Middle writers convinced Bryan Cranston to do crazy bee stunt
I always loved how comfortable Bryan Cranston’s character, Hal, was with being, well, au naturel on ‘Malcolm in the Middle’! It was a running gag, and it’s hilarious to see him starting off ‘Life’s Still Unfair’ completely naked again – just like old times!
Bryan Cranston was so game for anything that the show’s writers started wondering if there were any limits to what he’d do. This led to a memorable scene in the first season where he ended up covered in bees, as the show’s creator, Linwood Boomer, told Collider.
Early in the show, after just two episodes, we all realized Bryan was incredibly willing to try anything. The writers jokingly started brainstorming what boundaries, if any, he didn’t have.

Someone mentioned seeing a man completely covered in bees – around ten thousand of them – and we all thought, ‘Wow, that would be incredible!’ So, we asked him if he’d be willing to do it, and started brainstorming ways to make it happen.
He responded positively, saying it sounded good. We told him we’d consider it and then moved forward with a different idea. This sparked a creative challenge: could we come up with a project Bryan wouldn’t approve? Ultimately, we weren’t able to.
Malcolm in the Middle is coming back on April 10th, and the new episodes, titled Life’s Still Unfair, will finally reveal the answer to a mystery that’s been part of the show for a long time.
