God of War actor thinks trilogy remake will bring back scenes cut for over a decade

The God of War remakes might be bringing back something fans haven’t seen in over a decade.

Okay, so for anyone new to the series, the original God of War games were… a bit much. In God of War, God of War 2, God of War 3, and even the PSP games, Kratos would sometimes, uh, interact with women. It’d trigger these quick, cinematic scenes, and if you played through them, you’d get rewarded with Red Orbs. Basically, it was a little side thing you could do for extra stuff.

While the earlier games weren’t shy about showing off, their playful nature was always clear. They were boisterous, lighthearted, and very much a product of their time. When the new Norse saga began in 2018, that over-the-top style disappeared. Director Cory Barlog explained that Kratos had matured, and subsequent games, including 2022’s Ragnarok, maintained that more subdued approach.

God of War remake could bring back Kratos’ most notorious scenes

During a panel at Megacon Orlando in late March, IGN asked T.C. Carson – the original and returning voice of Kratos – if the remakes would include the minigames from previous games. Carson responded with a playful, “I think so, guys!”

When the interviewer presented it as a major announcement, Carson quickly corrected himself, explaining he’d only said he thought something was likely, not that it was confirmed.

Despite facing potential cuts in the game’s remake, certain scenes have gained support from unexpected sources. Writer Alanah Pearce pointed out that these scenes should be kept, highlighting that the original minigames were primarily created by women who were proud of their work. Pearce specifically mentioned that the ‘Aphrodite’s Chamber’ sequence in God of War 3 was intentionally designed by female developers to represent female anatomy.

Wow, what a year it’s been for the series! Back in February, I was really bummed to hear Christopher Judge tell a fan at Fan Expo Canada that he wouldn’t be involved in the remakes. But he did tease that Santa Monica Studio would share what they’re working on next around late summer, which has me super excited and on the lookout for any news!
