Pokémon Pokopia’s DLC Needs To Copy The Gen 2 Games

The game has been incredibly popular on the Nintendo Switch, and players are eager to see what comes next. Many believe a large update with new content is planned. Now is the perfect time for the developers to build on the game, similar to how they expanded the original on Game Boy by adding new areas and challenges.

Pokémon Pokopia takes place in a future Kanto region that has been devastated and abandoned by humans, who had to leave Earth due to a major environmental disaster. The Pokémon stayed behind, and with the help of a Ditto, they worked to heal the land, eventually restoring Kanto to the way it was in the original Pokémon Red & Blue games.

Pokémon Pokopia’s DLC Leaks Suggest the Game Will Stick to Kanto

This has sparked fan theories that we’ll see the rest of the region in a future downloadable content pack. Recent Pokémon games have successfully added new content through expansion passes and updates, making this a likely way to continue expanding the game’s world.

We’ve received confirmation of new content, but it’s still unknown how it will be released. It could be a single, paid expansion, a series of new locations added over time, or free updates that expand the existing world.

Pokémon Pokopia Should Head to Johto Next

While Pokémon Pokopia has done well and could get a sequel, it’s not a sure thing. The Pokémon Let’s Go games were very popular too, but they didn’t lead to another installment in that particular style.

To make a successful sequel to Pokémon Pokopia, the game would need to follow a similar story to the original: a previously inhabited region is deserted, and a Ditto must save the day by transforming. Achieving this would require setting the new game in a completely different location.

Instead of making a completely new Pokémon game, Game Freak could create a large expansion for the current version. This expansion should fulfill a long-standing fan request, similar to what they did with Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen and Pokémon Let’s Go: allow players to travel through both the Kanto and Johto regions.

In Pokémon Gold & Silver, after becoming the champion of the Johto region and defeating Lance, players could journey to the Kanto region from the original Pokémon Red & Blue games, facing stronger versions of the trainers they remembered. Now, Pokémon Pokopia is offering a new experience, allowing players to travel from Kanto back to Johto.

These two areas have strong ties already, and a new game could seamlessly continue the narrative, perhaps with the character Ditto investigating and repairing problems at the Brass Tower, ultimately working to restore the entire region. For years, players have eagerly awaited a return to the Johto region, but the game developers haven’t seemed willing to revisit it, even though they’ve gone back to the Kanto region several times.

As a Pokémon fan, I’m really excited about Pokémon Pokopia! It’s like, the perfect way to revisit the Johto region without it messing with the main story. It’s where a lot of us first fell in love with Pokémon, and this DLC feels like a fantastic way to go back and experience it all over again.
